Temporal Mastery

Miracle Mechanic Trivia

New 26 Aug 2017 Asked by bensingmatthew 40 Comments

Hey Mark, it's my Birthday today! Do you have any trivia on my first Mythic, Temporal Mastery? Or on my favorite mechanic to date, Miracle? Thanks!

Miracle was a mechanic we tried variations on all the way back to Tempest. Brian Tinsman solved it by taking the Gordian Knot approach and just saying “it works” and got together with the Rules Manager to figure out how. Happy Birthday!

Time Walk Safety

New 30 Dec 2014 Asked by subbak 36 Comments

It seems that every time you make a Time Walk (or similar) spell now (Temporal Mastery, Worst Fears, Temporal Trespass) it exiles itself. I assume this means that you don't want locks in the game anymore, but was that really a risk with something that costs 11 mana (Delve is not going to do much if you intend to use it for a lock, i.e. cast it every turn)?

Having a safety valve on Time Walks is just good development.

Rescue's Exile Reason

So why does Rescue from the Underworld exile itself? I don't get the flavor of that if there is any, and it doesn't seem to do anything hugely degenerate if it doesn't (unlike, say, Temporal Mastery, which was in the same standard as Noxious Revival)

It exiles itself, not because of flavor but because of power level concerns.

Time Lord Deck Fun

All the blink/flicker and Temporal Mastery in this set has enabled me to finish my "Time Lord" deck (with Venser and lots of exile effects). I thought you'd enjoy hearing that.

I do.

Temporal Mastery Easter Egg

Alright, Maro, its time to level with us... which doctor is it that is looking at the hour glass in temporal mastery? I see a hat, so I'm guessing 11th.

I can’t quite make it out. Is it a fez?

Temporal Mastery Nickname

New 10 Apr 2012 Asked by vixorien 5 Comments

Can we start calling Temporal Mastery "Some Times Walk"? Ok, that's not a real question. I'm extremely excited for more AVR previews! I love the flavor of Soulbond. It's "Soulbond" and not "Soulbound" right? I keep seeing both. I assume "Soulbound" keeps coming up because it's a term from World of Warcraft and everyone's muscle memory kicks in when typing it.

It’s soulbond. I keep messing it up not because of World of Warcraft but because the mechanic was called bind in design and it “bound” to other creatures (now it “pairs”).

Legacy and Miracles

Oh Maro, comparing your writing to Woody and Tarantino? How humble. Good article though. Miracles look sweet but I hope you guys are ready for the backlash when you have to finally ban brainstorm in legacy. (also, turn 2 delver, ponder turn 3: flip reveal Temporal Mastery? Ooph.)

I was trying to compare the style to things people know. I don’t think I’m giving Allen or Tarantino a run for their money.  As for Legacy, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
