Unifying Innistrad Werewolves

New 01 Jun 2024 Asked by missmoo77 22 Comments

If you had the chance to unify all Innistrad werewolves under either their original flip requirements or with daybound/nightbound, which would you choose? Would you start from scratch with a 3rd idea? Does the answer change when looking at Midnight Hunt/Crimson Vow as a whole with the amount of cards that care about day/night?

I’d like them all to be linked. Which option depends on execution.

Color Pie Abilities

New 01 Nov 2019 Asked by trifas 26 Comments

Mark, how tied are the abilities in the color pie? I mean, if you start from scratch and say Black will be primary in counterspell and White will be primary in direct damage. Would it be inevitable for Black to be the primary draw and bounce color and White to be the primary artifact destruction and haste color?

Are we assuming that we’re keeping the core color philosophies?

Familiar Planeswalkers Perspective

New 29 Sep 2016 Asked by lazcarno 39 Comments

"I miss worlds where we start from scratch, where no PWs have been (at least that we know of)" There was never such a time. After the Lorwyn 5 were introduced, literally every block has had at least one planeswalker who we've met before get a card in the first set.

Humans crave familiarity. It’s hard wired into our brains.

Planeswalkers Overexposure Concern

New 28 Sep 2016 Asked by mbertiaux 95 Comments

Don't you feel the overexposure of the same Planeswalkers (Chandra, Nissa, Jace, Gideon) will kill our interest? I understand wanting a more focused story, but at the same time, I miss worlds where we start from scratch, where no PWs have been (at least that we know of). How do you plan to fix this issue?

There’s a reason the Enterprise explores new worlds rather than just introducing natives each week.

Revisiting Kamigawa

New 31 Aug 2014 Asked by dace67 37 Comments

If you're okay with revisiting certain mechanics and themes that were broken, why not planes like Kamigawa? I know you guys can do a "Legendary matters" theme much better now so I'm confused on why some stuff is "this was unpopular so let's find a way to make it better" versus "this was unpopular so we should avoid going back."

A set gets many mechanics. If players don’t like one, they can turn to others. You only get one world. By the way, odds are one day we will revisit top-down Japanese inspired world but when we do it’s more likely we’ll start from scratch and try anew rather than start from a place that wasn’t well received last time we did it.
