Snow Mercy Card Specification

If printed nowadays, would Snow Mercy have been a colored artifact?

It was parodying the card No Mercy, so I think it needed to stay an enchantment.

Silver-border rules question: Does Snow Mercy actually work, since the official rules say you can pay costs in any order?

It works.

Birthday trivia time! Since it's the season, can you tell us some trivia about the holiday cards?

Matt Tabak was the one to come up with the “Tap, Untap, Tap, Untap, Tap, Untap” cost of Snow Mercy, my favorite thing ever on a holiday card.Happy Birthday!

What's your favorite holiday card? For me, it's hard to displace the original Fruitcake Elemental, but I might have to go with Snow Mercy.

I really like Stocking Tiger.

Teysa Birthday Trivia

Hi Mark! I've just had my first birthday since following you and I'm excited about asking for some birthday trivia. Do you have anything about Teysa, particularly my favourite Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts? I love Orzhov and her art particularly. Thanks!

Teysa’s main ability is a variant on a famous card called No Mercy from Urza’s Legacy. A few years ago, the holiday card, Snow Mercy, was a parody of that card. Happy Birthday!

So Gavin just spoiled a third of From the Vault: Angles, including Snow Mercy. It made me sad that there haven't been enough silver-border cards for a From the Un-Vault product. :(

There have been more than fifteen silver-bordered cards.

Holiday Card Explanation

What's the deal with Stocking Tiger? All the previous holiday cards have fairly obvious Christmas connections: typically Christmas phrases (with a twist) or actions (Snow Mercy); or twists on real cards (Gifts Given). Stockings are obvious...but a tiger? What's that all about?

It’s a word play on the card Stalking Tiger.

Snow Mercy Origins

There's a blizzard outside my window. Can you please tell a fun story about Snow Mercy?

The way holiday cards work is that I and the creative team sign off on a name that we think will produce good art and an interesting/funny concept. Then after the art comes back, I set out to design it often with help from the other designers.  We were struggling a bit with the design and didn’t know how to communicate the snow globe feel the art had. That’s when Matt Tabak spoke up and suggested the “tap, untap, tap” idea. I knew it was brilliant the second he suggested it and it went on the card. The reason the card didn’t turn into an artifact, by the way, is a) we wanted the name Snow Mercy and b) we had been doing a five-card cycle with the holiday cards and white was the color that was left so I really wanted the card to be white.
