Are planeswalkers with names starting with K immune to phyresis?

Talk to Karn. : )

Counter Types Consideration

New 20 Jan 2023 Asked by stormtide-leviathan 33 Comments

Was it ever considered to use oil counters for Weatherlight Compleated instead of phyresis counters, or was it made to early that oil counters weren't settled yet

That was probably designed before oil counters were first created.

Phyrexian Transformation Depth

New 15 Dec 2022 Asked by orzhovplaneswalker 60 Comments

I think what makes Phyrexian planeswalkers and Phyresis so horrific is the sheer invasive nature of the transformation. It’s like a conglomeration of multiple phobias from machine and body horror, to medical horror, and even psychological horror. To be made Phyrexian is to be violated, so while it’s a genius narrational element, the story-tellers have to revere a certain degree of ‘space’ for those processing their favourite characters being transformed, as the story is now no longer mere entertainment- It’s a mirror for real-life human trauma and it’s necessary processing.

That’s a fine point.

Tamiyo's Compleation

I thought having a spark made you immune to Phyresis. How did Tamiyo get compleated?

Scroll down. I gave a pretty lengthy answer about it below.

New Phyrexia Trivia

New 13 Aug 2021 Asked by ghostlygideon 57 Comments

It is once again my birthday! May I request trivia about New Phyrexia, the praetors, or phyresis?

In design, New Phyrexia has a mechanic that went on creatures that let you join them into a single creature. It was the precursor to both Meld and Host/Augment.

Physicists Effect on Planeswalker

New 23 Jul 2021 Asked by mj3913 57 Comments

It appears there are conflicting reports of whether or not a planeswalker can be effected by phyresis or not. That aside, could a Planeswalker Planeswalk with say a Vile of Glistening oil on their person?

To the best of my knowledge, you can’t Phyrexianize a planeswalker. Getting Venser’s spark, for example, was what freed Karn from Phyrexian influence.

Return of Phyrexians

New 23 Aug 2020 Asked by lostinsus 35 Comments

How soon do you think we'll see the phyrexians again, and is there any chance we'll see another plane undergo phyresis?

I doubt we’ve seen the last of the Phyrexians.

Karn's Spark History

New 13 May 2017 Asked by roastedgravy 26 Comments

On Karn, wasn’t it that he inherited Urza’s spark, then was given Venser’s spark to save him from Phyresis?

I believe the first time was Xantcha’s spark.

Planeswalkers and Phyresis

New 10 Oct 2016 Asked by thyrixsyx 125 Comments

Planeswalkers are immune to phyresis due to the spark, so if Karn is phyrexified again it will be because he lost his spark first. The reason it happened the first time is because he used his spark to close a time rift and his last act was flinging himself to mirrodin. This immunity is likely a big reason Koth is not super dead yet.

Half Counters

New 31 Jul 2012 Asked by homoduplex-deactivated20130421 5 Comments

Let's say I've enchanted my Bad Ass with Phyresis, making it a 3.5/1 creature with infect. If I attack with him and he's unblocked, will he give the opponent three and a half poison counters? If I attack with him and a Wall of Denial blocks him, does the wall get three -1/-1 counters and a -.5/-.5 counter? And can I use Steady Progress to get my opponent up to five poison counters by giving him an additional poison counter AND an additional half of a poison counter?

Yes, all those half things happen. I answered your question mostly to comment on how much I like you photo. : )

Identifying Player Types

New 15 Jun 2012 Asked by silent7seven 9 Comments

I just got home from a game in which I had Opalescence and a Phyresis on my Form of the Dragon—I was a Phyrexian dragon! And I dealt 5 poison damage straight to someone's face! It took a lot of planning (including during deck building) to pull this combo off, and I didn't even win with it, but I'm still happy. What kind of player am I?

You’re a Johnny. (As am I.)
