Ninth Edition

Monkey Type Update

New 08 Apr 2024 Asked by chorocojo 31 Comments

Zodiac Monkey and Tree Monkey were both reprinted in 9th edition because at the time they were the only Monkeys in Magic. Ninth Edition was when creature types would only be updated if cards were reprinted and this let yall remove Monkey as a type and roll them into Ape.

Artifact Creature History

New 21 Nov 2022 Asked by vedalkensamurai 20 Comments

A little nitpick on your column today: There were artifact creatures with creature types as far back as Sixth Edition and Urza's Destiny; it wasn't until Ninth Edition and Ravnica that ALL artifact creatures had creature types.

A fine point.

Monkey Type Trivia

New 02 Oct 2022 Asked by graymerchantsmonomyth 39 Comments

Hello! Can I request birthday trivia on the Monkey creature type?

Monkey, as a creature type, first appeared in Portal: Second Age on Tree Monkey. It then appeared in Portal: Three Kingdoms on Zodiac Monkey. Both were errataed to Ape in Ninth Edition, but returned to Monkey when Wild Bandar brought the Monkey type back in Kaladesh. Happy Birthday!

White Border Future

I'm very love White Border(For example,Ninth Edition's reprint cards). Is there a future that White Border Cards are printed again?

I never say never but white border’s future is murky at best.

Core Sets Voting

New 10 Mar 2014 Asked by lseths 12 Comments

I remember that in the past for core sets, you would let people vote on some of the cards in them... they were called "Selecting Eighth Edition", "Selecting Ninth Edition", etc. However, you don't seem to do this anymore for the new core sets. Have I just totally been missing you do this, or did you stop? And if you stopped, why did you? I thought it was fun for players to have a bit more of a voice in what made it to the core set to be Standard legal again.

While a lot of players enjoyed it the logistics proved too problematic.

City in a Bottle Query

New 06 Nov 2013 Asked by hargismb 7 Comments

Question for the Un-Rules Manager: as of M14, the old card City in a Bottle received functional errata so that it hits every card originally printed in Arabian Nights regardless of the printing of the card in front of you (so City will still answer a ninth edition Kird Ape). Does World-Bottling Kit work the same way?

Nope. World Bottling Kit looks for the expansion symbol. The change in the black bordered rules is because cards can no longer functionally care about expansion symbol. That’s not a problem in silver-bordered land.

Maro Power Toughness

If you were asked to create "Maro (Not the Mirage, Classic Sixth Edition, Seventh Edition, Eighth or Ninth Edition One)", what would its power and toughness be?

I’m also */* but the variables are different. : )
