Mindclaw Shaman

Context of Mindclaw Shaman's Ability

In regards to Mindclaw Shaman, is it only because it casts from hand that it's a bend? Red has definitely had plenty of access to opponents libraries, e.g Etali. I'd still understand calling it a bend, but a big bend?

Going after cards the opponent has drawn is significantly different than cards they haven’t drawn yet.

Color Pie Justification for Mindclaw Shaman

Is mindclaw shaman in color pie?

The ability, casting spells out the opponent’s hand, is primary in blue and black. I’ll call it a big bend in red.

Red's Image Evolution

I have something positive to say about the color pie. As someone who plays a lot of commander and loves red, I've seen a push in changing the color's image beyond simply "burn stuff, keep attacking." Now it has more temporary cloning, more interaction with artifacts (especially Kurkesh and Hellkite Tyrant), spell stealing (Mindclaw Shaman), draws more cards and has enjoyed a big increase in its spell-copying effects. It's more diverse, has a better late game and still feels "red." Keep it up.

Will do.

Consulting on M13

How frequently were you consulted as the Color Pie Guru for M13? With the exception of red looting, it seems to be a bit of a step backwards color pie-wise, at least compared to Innistrad block and even M12. On a separate note, I do love Mindclaw Shaman, and I want to thank his designer.

Interestingly, because of my focus on the expert expansions, I am much more involved in them than the core set which is quirky as the core set wants to most adhere to the color pie.
