If or when? Another enchantress effect in white, like mesa enchantress?

When, but it will have the once per turn restriction.

White’s Primary Enchantress Effect

New 19 Oct 2021 Asked by quantext 38 Comments

In the mechanical color pie article it still lists white as being primary in enchantress effects, but white hasn't received a full enchantress effect since Planar Chaos (Mesa Enchantress) and hasn't received an aura specific enchantress effect since Aether Revolt. (Sram) Why is it still listed as being primary even if it almost never receives this effect?

Being in color pie means it’s available to get it (with a restriction of one card per turn).

Mesa Enchantress Draw Effect

"I think a modern enchantress would have a once a turn limitation. " Is Mesa Enchantress considered a break now?

In the way we’ve decided to do white draw, yes.

On Damnation and Color Pie

New 21 Jul 2020 Asked by bunsenburn 44 Comments

Is Damnation a color pie break? Is Languish the closest black can get for a 4 mana wrath? I know it comes from Planar Chaos, as a colorshifted card, but some of those colorshifted cards actually aren't pie breaks (Such as Prodigal Pyromancer, Mesa Enchantress, Ovinize, and Seal of Primordium). Is black still unable to have an unconditional wrath at 4 mana? Perhaps one without regeneration mentioned, like Day of Judgement.

Damnation is not a color pie break. Black can kills lots of creatures.

Enchantment Card Drawing

Drawing a card when you play an enchantment has bounced between Green and White - Verduran Enchantress in Alpha to 8th to Mesa Enchantress in M10 and M12 to Eidolon of Blossoms in Journey of Nyx and now Setessan Champion. Is this ability back only in green, or is it still part of white's color pie?

Both green and white have some access to it.

Mesa enchantress' effects can still be printed in White?

That’s currently up for debate.

Mesa Enchantress Role

Is Mesa enchantress (draw a card when you cast a enchantment spell) fine for white sometimes? or it must be even more narrow like auras?

It’s a bit broad.

White Card Draw

If white isn't allowed card draw in the form of Mentor of the Meek or Mesa Enchantress, then what card draw is it allowed?

It gets cantrips.

Card Draw Exceptions

New 31 May 2014 Asked by subbak 26 Comments

How do you explain Mesa Enchantress (also printed outside of Planar Chaos), Kor Spiritdancer, Puresteel Paladin and Mentor of the Meek? Color pie violations, or color pie of the past that has since changed?

Card drawing is pretty basic so even being fifth means you get a little.

Enchantress Color Distribution

Do you think it's odd that, until Eidolon of Blossoms, that the most recently printed Enchantress is a white card, Mesa Enchantress? Why no Veduran Enchantress?

The ability is something we do in green and white.

Planar Chaos Color Pie

New 01 Nov 2013 Asked by sirlrb 4 Comments

Do you think part of the precedences people seem to think Planar Chaos sets are in part due to cards that first appeared there be reprinted or having a functional reprinting? For example, Prodigal Pyromancer, Enslave, and Mesa Enchantress have since been reprinted, Ovinize and Pongify have functional reprints, and you yourself have stated that Damnation, for example, is perfectly within Black's slice of the Color Pie. Or the fact Harmonize keeps being shoved into supplemental products.

Just because it was in Planar Chaos doesn’t mean it’s out if color pie, but being in doesn’t guarantee it is in color pie.

White's Card Drawing

On the topic of white drawing cards: do you consider cards like Mesa Enchantress and Mentor of the Meek, which draw cards based on stuff white does well, to be okay according to the color pie?

Card drawing is an important part of the game so yes, we’ve tried to sneak it in flavorfully where we can. I don’t want white going overboard here but I do like the idea of play to white’s strengths and get some help with card advantage.

Planar Chaos Color Pie

New 06 Mar 2012 Asked by pseudolias 0 Comments

I recall you once saying that Planar Chaos should never be used as a reference for how the colour pie works. But Mesa Enchantress and Prodigal Pyromancer were both reprinted in the M10 core set, among others! And Enslave was recently reprinted in New Phyrexia. Not that I dislike those cards (I love Planar Chaos), but if any and every card from Planar Chaos is unfit in the color pie, then why did those cards get reprints?

We did use Planar Chaos to try out some color pie shifts we were considering, but there is a big difference between us experimenting and Planar Chaos cards being precedence.
