Languish

On Damnation and Color Pie

Is Damnation a color pie break? Is Languish the closest black can get for a 4 mana wrath? I know it comes from Planar Chaos, as a colorshifted card, but some of those colorshifted cards actually aren't pie breaks (Such as Prodigal Pyromancer, Mesa Enchantress, Ovinize, and Seal of Primordium). Is black still unable to have an unconditional wrath at 4 mana? Perhaps one without regeneration mentioned, like Day of Judgement.

Damnation is not a color pie break. Black can kills lots of creatures.

Meta Design Shift

Since the direction of design has seemingly changed to be significantly less focused on spells, we've seen blue and red die off as colors in standard. Do you think this design change is incorrect seeing what has happened, or do you plan to try and work blue and red into the new midrange metas?

Less focused on spells? Let’s check the Standard metagame. Here are the five current most powerful cards: (yes, I had some help compiling this list)Collected CompanyAvacynSylvan AdvocateLanguishDromoka’s CommandTwo of them are creatures.*Three* of them are spells.Yes, the pendulum swings making certain colors stronger and weaker in the metagame, but it’s not because we’re unwilling to make powerful spells.

Color Pie Oversight

You often use the example of the "G 1/1 Snake with Flash, Deathtouch and ETB fight ability" as an example of breaking the color pie without going outside of what the color can do. Isn't that the same case with Ezuri's Predation? It's essentially a one-sided Languish. Is this another case of Commander oversight or what?

I believe it is out of color pie for the same reasons.

Mood Swings Card

If a bunch of fans begged Wizards to print Mood Swings, do you think it would see print or just languish in our dreams like Un-3.

I just don’t think Mood Swings falls in the area we are currently focusing. I do hope it sees print some day.
