Leeching Bite

Green Spell Removal

New 26 Aug 2019 Asked by darthvedik 28 Comments

Hello Mark, I want to ask you about Green getting -N/-N on spells, specifically Instant and Sorcery cards. In the Mechanical Color Pie article, Black is the only color to do -N/-N abilities on spells. Other colors do put -1/-1 counters on creatures. However, Leeching Bite breaks that mold due to it giving -1/-1 to a creature instead of giving it a -1/-1 counter. If Leeching Bite an acceptable bend, would we see other mono Green cards that give -N/-N on spells again?

Green creature removal is supposed to be dependent on your creatures.

Color Pie Integrity

On the subject of keeping the colour pie intact. I remember reading somewhere that your least favourite card of NPH was Leeching Bite, due to giving a -X/-X to green. However, I must ask; how did you feel about Innistrad's Manor Skeleton, providing a black card with both haste and regeneration?

Black is secondary in haste and primary in regeneration so the card is fine color piewise. (I still don’t know how to spell the word I’ve made up.)
