Organ Jar Tribal Support

New 09 Jun 2019 Asked by dailynator 69 Comments

We have a jar of eyeballs. We have gleemax (a Brain) in a jar. When will we see other organs in jars? Can we get jar tribal support?

We need to get cracking on that organ deck. : )“I have the heart of a child… at home in a jar.”

Just how long are we going to have to wait for creatures to get an eyeball stat so Jar of Eyeballs can finally work properly!?

Eye Gouge Interaction

I control a Jar of Eyeballs and a Cyclops. You cast Eye Gouge on my Cyclops. I get two eyeball counters on my Jar. Where do they come from? : )

The Blind Eternities. : ) Which, by the way, was previously known as the Seeing Eternities before you cast the Eye Gouge.

Jar of Eyeballs Origin

I have a serious question. Was Jar of Eyeballs originally an Unhinged card?

Nope, it was top down designed for Dark Ascension.

Playtest Names to Print

New 05 May 2012 Asked by thesilvernoble 1 Comments

Are there any playtest card names that made it from test to print that you're particularly fond of or proud of? (Other than the easy ones, say, Maro or Unglued cards - hey, speaking of unglued/unhinged cards and names, how responsible were you for the naming of the cards in that set?)

I’m happy both Black Cat and Jar of Eyeballs made it all the way through.

Designing for Rarity

New 29 Feb 2012 Asked by fangfabio 1 Comments

When you use a design skeleton, every card has a rarity. But what about top-down designed sets? E.g., if you want to design a jar of eyeballs or a creepy doll, how do you start designing them if you don't know what rarity they are? Or did you designed them as rares from the beggining? I guess you'd have designed a very different jar of eyeballs or creepy doll, should they've been common or uncommon. Maybe you designed one for each rarity and then liked the rare one better?

For top down design, you will design a card and then figure out what rarity it makes sense in. Be aware that a design skeleton matches the set being created. Top down sets leave room for top down cards.

Dark Ascension Design Insights

Are we going to soon see an article with all the top down designs in Dark Ascension and their goals? (Jar of eyeballs and looking through future cards in the deck)

My article a week from Monday is going to be my normal card by card design stories column which covers a lot of that stuff.

Jar of Eyeballs Concept

New 11 Jan 2012 Asked by sealofmagic 4 Comments

How was Jar of eyeballs top-downed, considering the near-exact copy Shrine of piercing vision is ? Why put those two cards in such close extensions ?

It is very possible to end up with similar card, one top-down designed and one bottom-up designed. That said, I think Jar of Eyeballs is a bit different from Shrine of Piercing Vision in two important ways: 1) The card does not sacrifice itself to use meaning it can net you many cards, not just one. 2) The card cares about a completely different thing (creature deaths as opposed to blue spells played).

Card Rarity Justification

New 10 Jan 2012 Asked by manwhoquestionsmaro-blog 3 Comments

How could cards like Ghoultree or Jar of Eyeballs even be considered rares? If Ghoultree had trample, sure, that's a rare then. Jar of Eyeballs seems like a slower Shrine of Piercing Vision at best.... I don't see how this card could be a rare whilst Shrine of Piercing Vision is an uncommon.

Everyone seems to miss that unlike Shrine of Piercing Vision, that you do not sacrifice Jar of Eyeballs to use it. It’s repeatable.

Inspiration for Jar

Did you make Jar of Eyeballs because of Magic Cards With Googly Eyes here on Tumblr?

The site didn’t exist when we made the card but if ever a card was made for that site.

Jar of Eyeballs Preview

New 09 Jan 2012 Asked by confessionsofapuzzledwizard-blog 4 Comments

I think I can speak for everyone when I say: JAR OF EYEBALLLLLLSSS!

I’m scheduled to preview Jar of Eyeballs in all my social media outlets (Tumblr, Twitter, Google +) on January 10th. I accidentally thought that was today (being Monday). It is not. Jar of Eyeballs will be previewed on Tuesday (and not, by the way, Monday night).  Once again, the card was top down designed from the name “Jar of Eyeballs”.

Naming Jar of Eyeballs

The card is actually named Jar of Eyeballs? :D

Yes, the card is named Jar of Eyeballs. In fact, the card was top-down designed from the name Jar of Eyeballs.  I’ll show to you all here on tumblr on Monday.
