Ghost Quarter

Demolition Field Analysis

New 17 Feb 2023 Asked by siamkor 31 Comments

Isn't Demolition Field a pretty fair and fixed Strip Mine, and a useful safety valve to have in Standard in case a land turns out too powerful?

Yeah, it’s a tweak of Ghost Quarter which was what I consider my proper “fix” for Strip Mine.

Requesting Card Reprint

New 15 Feb 2023 Asked by patjamma 26 Comments

Since Ghost Quarter has come up a couple of times today, it feels like the perfect time to ask: may I request a reprint of Ghost Quarter into Standard and Pioneer?

I can ask. I don’t know how play design feels about the card.

Fixing Broken Cards

New 15 Feb 2023 Asked by dolbuzalo 41 Comments

Are there any broken cards that you’ve printed multiple attempts at fixing?

I made many “fixed” versions of Strip Mine that went on to also be broken (Wasteland being the most famous). In retrospect, I shouldn’t have made any. Okay maybe Ghost Quarter.

Favorite Card Fix

What's your favorite card that you've made that's a "fix" for an older one?

Probably Ghost Quarter. It took me a while to fix “Strip Mine”, but I feel I did it:

Role of Powerful Lands

New 22 Feb 2022 Asked by zackdes44 26 Comments

Why do field of ruin and ghost quarter not allow for *some* problematic lands to be printed?

We do make powerful lands from time to time. I was just saying we have to be careful.

Legendary Lands and Removal

New 28 Dec 2020 Asked by nutsofoden 33 Comments

but like a Legendary Creature that downside can be used to help offset a powerful effect. I would rather see Legendary Lands and a few more instances of targeted land removal ie. Ghost Quarter, to help answer them. It not only makes having more then one copy more relevant but allows those lands to have a greater effect.

Having the legendary lands be more powerful than normal only exacerbates the legendary play pattern problem with lands.

Mending's Impact

New 19 Jul 2019 Asked by poetryofunguideddescent 47 Comments

Did The Mending only affect planeswalker stuff and big things like the Ghost Quarter and the AEther in Kaladesh, or were there lots of smaller effects that haven't been focused on yet but are still open for story exploitation?

I’m sure there were big and small ramifications of the Mending, some of which we might not know yet.

Blue Permanents Interaction

New 17 Dec 2016 Asked by tsuyoshikentsu 47 Comments

"Blue doesn’t destroy permanents in the sense that it makes them permanently go away. It can used the word 'destroy' as a mechanical means to aid in transformation." So Blue could Ghost Quarter lands? It could get Gild, but for artifacts? A Blue Chaos Warp would be a bend, not a break? Blue's mechanical weakness is that it's supposed to be reactive--that it has trouble permanently dealing with things in play. How far are you going to stretch the "transmute" excuse to let it do whatever it wants?

Blue can steal permanents.Blue can tap and lock down permanents.Blue can bounce permanents.Blue can and has since the beginning of the game been able to interact with permanents. What it can’t do is destroy them (once again making them permanently go away).I’m not changing anything. I’m explaining how we’ve done Blue for the last 23 years.

Ghost Quarter Reprint Confusion

New 17 Apr 2015 Asked by kobayashicircle-deactivated2019 22 Comments

So how good a reprint is Ghost Quarter if you assumed it was made for Innistrad when actually it was first printed in Ravnica? Blazing torch isn't the only one!

It’s pretty easy for me to confuse a card I created in a set I led for a different card I created in a set I led. : )

Non-Basic Land Targeting Issue

New 21 Dec 2012 Asked by odysseyblockfan 8 Comments

Why not just put "target non-basic land" on cards like slaughter games, non-basic has been used for years on wasteland and ghost quarter, so if you put it on slaughter games it can now be a awnser for all kinds of things like cavern of souls or valakut

Do you mean any card whatsoever but a basic land or a land but only one that’s non-basic? See the ambiguity?

Favorite Nonbasic Lands

Whats your favorite nonbasic land?

Card I made: Ghost Quarter (I’m very proud of the design) Card I didn’t make: Pendelhaven (It was in my pet deck)
