Pillage Reprint Possibility

New 15 Nov 2018 Asked by jorgenwong-blog 14 Comments

Would it be possible to reprint pillage into Modern? I love that card and it would give my deck a fighting chance versus affinity, thank you!

I don’t think we’d print Pillage in Standard, which makes it difficult to get it into Modern.

Landwalk and Protection

"Unlike Red&Black, White, Blue and Green don't have any one card or card types they don't atleast have a fighting chance against.Weaknesses don’t have to be tied to card types." How is this different from your reasons for getting rid of Landwalk and protection? The ability to play cards that your opponent can't interact with based on the colors of mana they have access to. Every enchantment effectively has "Protection from Red and Black"

Blue also can’t destroy enchantments.

Weaknesses don’t have to be tied to card types.

Red vs. Enchantments

New 01 Jun 2016 Asked by siamkor 70 Comments

In the eternal Red vs. Enchantments debate, let's look at this from another angle: fun. When playing a Red deck and my friend drops Worship, I scoop. When my friend plays a mono-Black deck and I drop Ensnaring Bridge, he scoops. Neither of us haves fun. Both end up feeling bad. I am thankful for cards like Nevinyrral's Disk and "mistakes" like Chaos Warp (which is actually rather red: getting rid of a problem with no regard for the consequences). They give us a fighting chance.

Playing monocolor is supposed to leave you open to vulnerabilities. It’s the thing that pushes you to play more than one color. (The mana system is the force that pushes in the opposite direction.) Your mono-Red deck has problem with Worship? Splash a second color to deal with it.

Infect Mechanic Defense

Just so you're aware, as an extreme infect hater, my problem with it wasn't the poison counters at all. It was the -1/-1 counters. It made it near-impossible to block effectively, so it felt like I never felt like I had a fighting chance. If you want to bring back poison someday, that's fine, but do it without -1/-1 counters, please. Unless maybe you can justify to me why the -1/-1 counters were there?

Making infect creatures have a cost to block was an important part of what made infect work. Infect already has poorly statted, vulnerable creatures. You’re going to be ahead of them on curve. They need some way to break through.

Fog Effects in Colors

New 16 Jan 2015 Asked by a-stranger-place-blog-blog 20 Comments

Fighting Chance in red and Holy Day in white are 1 CMC true answers to Overrun as well. Related question: is Holy Day still something white can even do, or are Fog type effects solidly green?

Fog effects are in Green. We tried White having them for a little while but it just didn’t need them and Green very much did.

Tournament Draws Opinion

New 19 Oct 2014 Asked by thriftstoreties-deactivated2021 47 Comments

How do you feel about intentional draws in tournament play? I ask because at our local Khans Game Day we had a 17-player turnout, and in round 4, 8 of those players agreed to ties to automatically advance to the top 8. That means half the tournament colluded to not play for one round and shut the other half out from a fighting chance. Not debating the legality, just interested in your take.

Much hazier things happen if you don’t allow intentional draws.
