Darksteel Citadel

Potential of Enchantment Land

New 08 Dec 2020 Asked by trifas 37 Comments

Mark, considering Darksteel Citadel was safe enough to reprint in a Core Set, would you say a single Enchantment Land could be printed in a premiere set?

It depends on the larger environment.

Enchantment Land Potential

An enchantment land in a enchantment matters set could be too powerful. Is it possible for an enchantment land to appear in a core set? (like darksteel citadel)

If we do one, it’s more likely to be in a supplemental set than a Standard-legal one.

Enchantment Land Likelihood

Does a singular enchantment land a la Darksteel Citadel have a higher chance of passing muster than an entire colored cycle?

Yes.

Artifact Lands Scale

New 14 Jul 2018 Asked by gomperito 52 Comments

Inthought it was interesting that artifact lands are a 10 on the Storm Scale, but Darksteel Citadel was in M15 without any issues (as far as I know). Is the 10 more about sets that care heavily about artifacts?

One card is very different than the “mechanic” returning.

Safety of Darksteel Citadel

New 05 Oct 2016 Asked by benben-wearer-of-squids-blog 59 Comments

But Darksteel Citadel is safe, isn't it? Why not Darksteel Citadel: Enchantment Edition?

It was banned once. Safe cards don’t get banned. (Okay, discounting early Magic bannings done apparently with darts.)

Reprinting Broken Cards

New 16 Jun 2016 Asked by lgosvse 17 Comments

Regarding Goblin Welder, I'll point out that you have reprinted broken cards in Standard-legal expansions before. Darksteel Citadel was so overpowered during its first time in Standard that it was even banned in Standard. Didn't stop it from being reprinted in Magic 2015.

I’m not says my we never do it. I’m saying it’s done very infrequently.

Artifact Land Analysis

New 16 May 2016 Asked by royinversezx 26 Comments

"We don’t have time to prove something that’s mathematically true." But we do know one artifact land on the meta doesnt break affinity(see darksteel citadel on modern), so mathematicaly one enchantment land wouldnt be that problematic.

The math was that we’d have to weaken Constellation cards with it in the environment.

Land Reprints Policy

Will all land reprints (like Darksteel Citadel) feature the colorless mana symbol from now on?

All ones that produce colorless mana will.

Enchantment Land Power

New 24 Oct 2015 Asked by poorproplayer-deactivated201602 26 Comments

Would an enchantment land that only taps for one colorless be too powerful with constellation? You guys brought back darksteel citadel and that went okay.

We wouldn’t have brought it back during an “artifact matters” block.

Artifact Land Strength

New 23 Oct 2015 Asked by jacekenai 19 Comments

I know your not a developer, but was Darksteel Citadel to strong for standard? If not, why wouldn't a single enchantment land work if an artifact land with a benefit worked?

It was too strong when there was an “artifact matters” mechanic in Standard.

Enchantment Land Caution

New 23 Aug 2015 Asked by moone513 39 Comments

The artifact lands were a mistake, but it seems like development is fine with just one existing at a time; Darksteel Citadel has been reprinted in standard to great success, creating interesting interactions instead of degeneracy. If they felt one artifact land was fine, why so shy about a single enchantment land?

Because we wanted to do Constellation and even one enchantment land would have to make us raise the cost of every card.

Single Artifact Land

New 15 Aug 2012 Asked by sofacoin 1 Comments

If there was only Darksteel Citadel and no other artifact lands, there'd obviously be less of an issue- but do you think it'd still, on its own, be too powerful?

I don’t think one artifact land would have caused nearly the trouble that six did.
