Swamps in Pie

New 26 Mar 2024 Asked by brazilnutdust 19 Comments

"Dakkon Blackblade is definitely a color pie break, right? Right?!?It’s a green ability on a white/blue/black card. : )"
This made me think of a related question. I know counting lands generally is core green, but is counting swamps still in pie for black? (ex: Nightmare, Mutilate, Cabal Coffers)

Yes, it’s still in pie for black.

Dakkon Blackblade's Colors

New 07 Oct 2021 Asked by iamalsoalpharius 47 Comments

Hello,Not sure if this has ever been asked before, and not sure if you'd know the answer, but I recently made a commander deck around Dakkon Blackblade. In his flavour text, his power is as vast as the plains, (obviously white), strength is that of mountains, (red), and the waves crashing on the shore, (islands so blue?), thunder like blood in his veins. The guy himself is in Esper colours. I find it odd that his flavour text almost implies he draws power from Jeskai but he's in Esper? Is there a design process that decides this or is this just one of those unexplainable things? Thanks!

Early flavor text didn’t go through the same rigor as modern flavor text to guarantee that it matched up with the cards mechanical nature.

Dakkon Blackblade Query

New 11 Feb 2020 Asked by sonofabeholder 39 Comments

Hey Mark while we’re talking old legendaries that need new cards, can we get a new version of Dakkon Blackblade? His ability being Power/Toughness equal to the number of lands you control feels really weird on a UBW card. Shouldn’t he be Gx?

Legends was before the color pie got cleaned up.

Dead Planeswalkers Cards

New 12 Aug 2019 Asked by billthesomething 58 Comments

In Modern Horizon, we got Serra planeswalker whose been dead for long time in the lore. So does this mean there is a possibility of other planeswalker who have died reciving a new card? Like Dack Fayden, Dakkon Blackblade, Leshrac or Taysir

Supplemental sets can have dead planeswalkers.

So since Urza and Yawgmoth are both in Modern Horizons, who else are on the list of "Characters to make cards of" and is a Planeswalker Dakkon Blackblade on that list?

Planeswalkers who have received creature cards but no planeswalker card: Grandmother Sengir, Dakkon Blackblade, Azor, Jeska, and technically Slobad. Planeswalkers who have received one creature card and at least one Planeswalker card: Urza (Blind Seer was him), Teferi (or 2 creature cards if you count disruptive student), Xenagos, Venser, Samut, Narset, Gideon, Jace, Liliana, Chandra, Nissa, Jaya. Bolas and Ob Nixilis are the only 2 (besides Teferi) to have more than one creature card.

Dakkon Blackblade Reprint Inquiry

Can i request a reprint of Dakkon Blackblade?

Is he on the Reserved List? I think not because I believe he was in Chronicles. If he’s not on the Reserved List, he could get reprinted in a supplemental set.

Pre-Revisionist Characters

To answer that one person's question, numerous pre-revisionist characters have already jumped into modern Magic. Nicol Bolas, Freyalise, Tevesh Szat, Leshrac, Kristina of the Woods, Taysir, Urza, Mishra, Yawgmoth, Lim-Dul, King Darien, Lovisa Coldeyes, Empress Galina, and more! The first Dominaria story even referenced Dakkon Blackblade!

WotC Lobby Statues

New 05 Apr 2013 Asked by avatarofbro 14 Comments

I know there's a Shivan Dragon in the WotC lobby, a Prodigal Sorcerer in a meeting room, and a Jace, the Mind Sculptor somewhere else. Are there any other Magic statues laying around?

The Jace the Minsculpter is a statue we have at events not in the building. Other Magic statues in the building: Dakkon Blackblade, Goblin Grenade, the Jester from Jester’s Cap, Goblin Rocksled, Goblin King, the woman from the original Spirit Link and the goblin from Goblin War Drums. So, lots of goblins and a few others.
