Zendikar Resurgent

Mana Wording Comparison

New 28 Oct 2021 Asked by the-madness-network 30 Comments

"If/when: "Add one mana of any color or one colorless mana"" Couldn't you just say "add one mana of any type"? Compare the wording on Zendikar Resurgent.

I’m not sure that template lets you get colorless mana. And it opens the door about what exactly it does mean. Can is be snow mana, etc.?

Hi Mark! I don't have a question I just wanted to say that "Zendikar Resurgent" was a beautiful, touching end to an epic story arc. Please thank/high-five all the appropriate people, the hard work you are all doing is reaching me, and I'm sure many other fans, on multiple levels. Thank you!

Will do. Glad you enjoyed it.

Storytelling Method

Would R&D consider leaving the plot finale (i.e. Zendikar Resurgent) out of the cards? I find it strange to have "Kozilek's Return" and "Fall of the Titans" in the same set.

A lot of people are unaware that Heliod killed Elspeth at the end of the Theros story because we left it off cards. We’ve learned that we can’t do that. The *majority* of players get 100% of their story information from the cards. If we want them to know the story (and we do) it means putting it on the cards, ending and all. Another way to think of it is this, we tried doing what you’re asking us to do for many years and it failed. We’ve switched over and it appears to be working better than any previous story telling method we’ve tried. Magic is a tricky medium to tell story because the story telling isn’t sequential. That means that it’s super important for us to be very loud about the key story points so players can understand them. The reward for the faithful story fan is not in the overall story structure but in the details. Yes, the Gatewatch win but exactly why and how.

Zendikar Resurgent Origin

RE: Zendikar Resurgent. ".. I don’t think it’s mine." Are you sure? Remember Sneak Attack?

Sneak Attack is a good example of a card I wasn’t sure I made but then discovered I did when I went back and looked at the homework I did when designing cards for Tempest. It’s design name was Blitzkreig.

Did you design Zendikar Resurgent? It looks very much your style

It’s the kind of card I like designing, but no I don’t think it’s mine.
