Turn the Tide

Casted vs Cast Discrepancy

New 21 Feb 2022 Asked by thornthallid 54 Comments

Hi Mark,I've recently heard and read a lot of Magic content in which someone uses the word "casted", e.g. "my opponent casted a Doom Blade".To the best of my knowledge, the past tense of cast is cast, so "my opponent cast a Doom Blade". I just wanted to double-check with an authority in the area though - casted, or cast?Okay, you got me, I'm not really checking, it's definitely cast. I'm just hoping your blog can help turn the tide against this egregious misuse of language!

The past form of cast is cast. Blogatog is pro-grammar.

Red's Humans and Devils

You said "red was up to other things" regarding why it didn't get more soulbond--by that, did you mean humans tribal and a few devils? Why did red end up getting the lion's share of humans tribal? I mean, sure, people might be angry/passionate in the story, but they might just as easily be thoughtful plotters. (I can't make a case for them being green, as Innistrad really sucked for them in its natural state without anyone imposing law and order.)

We wanted the humans to build an army to help turn the tide and white and red made the most sense to be the human army.

Fateful Hour Context

I'm very excited about the recent unveilings, but I do have a quibble. What happened to fateful hour? I can't believe you'd set out to print something on just 7 cards and then drop it mid-block, so was it that it was too powerful with Phyrexian mana around to print more cards? My future future Thraben Doomsayer/Hex Parasite deck just became stillborn, which makes me sad.

Fateful hour doesn’t make much sense flavorfully in the set where the humans turn the tide and are winning.
