Time Warp Flavor Text

New 21 Dec 2023 Asked by makesasound 54 Comments

Twenty-six years after it was printed in Tempest, I just stumbled upon the original flavor text for Time Warp. Mark...I am in awe. Was that one of yours?

It was. : )

Extra Turn Spell

New 10 Dec 2022 Asked by j-waffles 59 Comments

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. White is the only mono-color to not have an extra turn spell, and I think it should get one. Especially when Seedtime (the only mono-green extra turn spell) is more in white’s part of the color pie than green’s. I know that extra turns are a powerful effect that you try to do in moderation, but I would still really like to request a mono-white extra turn spell. And just to be clear, I’m not asking for “time warp but white”, I still want to follow the color pie.

Box checking is a bad reason to push abilities into new colors.

Card Simplicity

New 30 Aug 2022 Asked by mbertiaux 33 Comments

Hi Mark! Do you agree that the best and most memorable cards in Magic tend to be the easiest to grok? Lightning Bolt, Time Warp, Birds of Paradise and now even Shivan Devastator fit this description.

Magic likes having some simple, clean, evocative cards.

Standard and Time Warp

New 13 Jun 2018 Asked by omnath-locus-of-cage 42 Comments

My birthday is just ending and I finally remembered to ask you a question! My favorite cards are “take an extra turn” cards. Is time warp back in standard an if or when?

An if. Happy Birthday!

Is the flavor text of time warp from tempest a reference to Rocky Horror Picture Show?

Yes.

Saffi's Fate

New 04 Oct 2015 Asked by keldon-masakr 18 Comments

Cheers Mark. I remember somedy asked you if we have seen the last about Saffi Eriksdotter, and your answer was very clear that she was devoured by the Lhurgoyf. But today I found out that she wasn't devoured. She stepped into a time rift. So is she probably alive after Time Spiral block?

Unless she took a vow of silence, I believe the time warp stuck her back where she came from.

Red Time Manipulation

New 15 Mar 2015 Asked by like-winter-we-are-cruel 23 Comments

Red has three cards that give them an extra turn, does that not count as messing with time?

Blue gets extra turns, it’s Time Walk and Time Warp. Red does and it’s Final Fortune or Last Chance so no I don’t think Red is flavored as using time manipulation.

Recurring Time Warp

If I recur Time Warp am I required to do the dance from Rocky Horror, or is it just good form?

It’s just good form. : )

Time Walk's Power Level

New 05 Sep 2014 Asked by mrpopogod 25 Comments

Ignoring the Reserved List, is Time Walk too strong for Standard? (I'm trying to find a too strong question you won't feel obligated to add in "not a developer" on)

I don’t have to be a developer to know Time Walk is too strong. I know development believes Time Warp (Time Walk for three extra mana) is too strong.

Teaching Complex Cards

New 04 Jun 2014 Asked by benkaestnerfrenchman 23 Comments

If you were teaching a smart adult to play Magic, what's the most complex card you would include? I know you recommend decks of only sorceries and French vanilla creatures, but I'm considering adding a couple of splashy rares too (Spawn of Thraxes or Time Warp, for example). What do you think?

The most important thing is the the person learning have fun and enjoy themselves. If adding a few rares you feel will do that, then add them. Just remember, they don’t have to learn all the rules by the end of their first game.

Time Warp's Cost

New 26 Oct 2012 Asked by ena-the-rogue-blog 7 Comments

I feel like Time Warp is a little too expensive. Has development ever played around with a slightly less expensive version?

There are those in the Pit that question it at five mana so I doubt we’re going to see extra turns for cheaper (well, without a significant downside).
