Could tamer silver border cards that care about dice rolling such as Chittering Doom and Snickering Squirrel be reprinted into black border?

It hasn’t been discussed yet.

Rules Update for Cards

New 25 Sep 2022 Asked by rhysticsyphon 18 Comments

Do die rerolling cards like Monitor Monitor currently work within the black-bordered rules or will they need a rules update with the release of Unfinity to function?I believe the issue with a card like Snickering Squirrel functioning in black border is that it requires you take an action in the middle of an ability resolving.

By the time you can play with the cards, they will work in the rules. I’m not sure when the rules update is.

Silver Border and Dice

Silver border question: if I'm mixing Unstable with Planechase, does cards like Snickering Squirrel that refer to dice affect the non-numbered Planar Dice in any way?

It can reroll them but not set a number as a result.

Luck Token Mechanics

New 24 Dec 2017 Asked by sometimesalwayslucky-blog 22 Comments

Two-part question since I'm thinking of making an "As Luck Would Have It" deck. Do cards that modify a die result, like "Snickering Squirrel", trigger before adding luck tokens to "ALWHI", hence increasing the number of luck tokens gained? Also, "ALWHI" reads "Whenever you roll a die", so that includes other numbered polyhedral random number generators, like those called for with the "Sword of Dungeons and Dragons", correct?

As Luck Would Have It counts the altered die roll only. And yes, other numerical dice like the 20-sided die on Sword of Dungeons & Dragons do count.

Un-rules Scenario

Un-rules question that came up last night: I control Snickering Squirrel. You control Wall of Fortune. I roll a die, then use Snickering Squirrel to increase the result by one. You use Wall of Fortune to make me reroll. Is the new result also increased by one?

Snickering Squirrel affects the result not the die, so if it gets rerolled by Wall of Fortune, Snickering Squirrel no longer boosts it.

Un-Rules Clarification

New 29 Nov 2017 Asked by kalkra 23 Comments

Hi Mark. Un-Rules questions. Do coins count as dice and do dice count as coins? If a coin is a two-sided die, what happens if you increase it with Snickering Squirrel? Is heads 1, or 2? Also, Is Dr. Julius Jumblemorph a villain? (I know he is. What I mean is, if he had a printed creature type, would villain be on it?)

Coins are not dice.

Snickering Squirrel Activation

New 23 Nov 2017 Asked by sdfkjgh 11 Comments

Does Snickering Squirrel have to be untapped for me to use its ability? If no, then does that mean that I can tap the same Snickering Squirrel as much as I want to increase a die roll that many times?

It has to be untapped. It’s one use.

Squirrel Mechanic Choice

Why doesn't Snickering Squirrel use the tap symbol?

If it tapped you would gave to respond to the effect that rolled the die rather than reroll it after you see the die roll.

Snickering Squirrel's Template

New 18 Nov 2017 Asked by ccgnick 20 Comments

Why the weird templating on Snickering Squirrel? Is it really that much better gameplay to tap the turn it comes into play to be worth the strange template? It feels almost like the way that an alpha card would have been worded.

Dice are quirky because you want to respond to then mid-resolution.

Snickering Squirrel Activation

New 18 Nov 2017 Asked by typicalcommanderplayer-blog 19 Comments

For Snickering Squirrel, do you have to respond to an effect or ability that will cause a die roll, or can its ability be activated after you've seen the die roll result (i.e. in the middle of the die rolling ability resolving)?

You can see the die result before choosing to use Snickering Squirrel.

Snickering Squirrel Usage

New 18 Nov 2017 Asked by varmac 17 Comments

Questions about Snickering Squirrel, it says "You may tap Snickering Squirrel to increase the result of any die a player rolled by 1." Does that mean 1. You can use it the turn it comes into play, and 2. You ca use it multiple times in a row?

You can use it the turn you play it but only once per turn. Once it’s tapped, you can’t use it until it untaps.

Squirrel Dice Mechanics

New 15 Nov 2017 Asked by coldlikehell 34 Comments

Can the squirrel cards increment your dice result past the amount allowed by the dice rolled? If yes how does that affect cards like Goblin Tutor or Jack-in-the-Mox?

It can. You can roll a 7 on a 6-sided die with Snickering Squirrel. For Unglued cards, if you roll a result not listed on the card, nothing happens.

Modifying Die Rolls

New 14 Nov 2017 Asked by hi-im-cixmen-deactivated2022122 18 Comments

Un-Rules question: If I decide the result of a heads or tails by rolling a dice, Can I modify that result with Snickering Squirrel?

No. You can only modify a die-roll coming from a card requiring a die roll.
