Understanding Evoke Misplays

New 02 Apr 2014 Asked by lazcarno 12 Comments

"The biggest problem [with Evoke] is that it can be used before the mana cost says it can. That makes a lot of people misplay it." Do you mean that people would wait until they have 5 mana available before evoking Glarewielder for 1R? Or, for Bloodrush, wait until they have 6 mana before bloodrushing Rubblehulk for 1RG? If so, I find that hard to believe. If not, I don't know what you mean.

Some players glance at a card’s mana cost and don’t process it until they can cast it even of there is an ability in the text box that would let them play it sooner.

Simplifying Mechanic Spoilers

When you spoil a mechanic for the first time, could try to find a card that's not a very complicated version of it? I remember people not having the slightest idea of what bloodrush meant because the only card they knew was Rubblehulk. Polukranos is exciting and flashy, but including a common that only put counters on itself once in the same Duel Deck would answer a lot of people's questions.

Polukranos was picked to be the face of the monster deck and not to be the introduction to monstrosity. I agree that it has caused some confusion.

Handling Silly Queries

How do you stay so patient when people ask you silly things? Someone recently asked for more "*/* not tied to hand size". This person apparently isn't aware of Wayfaring Temple, Voice of Resurgence, Splinterfright, Rubblehulk, Pack Rat, Malignus, Geist-Honored Monk, Crusader of Odric, Consuming Aberration, or Boneyard Wurm. Exactly how many */*'s do they want? And how do you stay so calm?

After years of doing this, I can get in a meditative zone while answering. : )

Rubblehulk Spoiler Confusion

Maro, I'm incredibly appreciative of the early spoilers, but Rubblehulk doesn't showcase the Bloodrush mechanic very clearly.

That is true. I think they just wanted to show an exciting card with the mechanic.
