Roboblogatog, give me trivia on Theros and Prophetic Flamespeaker!

I was told “You can’t make Theros”. I made it anyway. A happy person linked to Theros in the comments below.

Mechanic Naming

What do you call the mechanic that Prophetic Flamespeaker, Act on Impulse and Chandra, Pyromaster share? The one that peels stuff off the top of deck but is lost permanently at end of turn if not used. I love the effect but I'm not aware of a shorthand for it. Thanks!

In design, we’ve been calling it impulsive draw.

Red Card Stats

Is there a reason why Prophetic Flamespeaker and Ember Swallower have higher toughness than power for its mana cost, which seems out of color for red, or was that a development call?

First, while red mostly has power greater than toughness, it occasionally can have toughness greater than power. Second, it has double strike which means its power is essentially doubled.

Color Pie Explanation

Can you explain Prophetic Flamespeaker in terms of the color pie? It feels very weird...

Trample is red because it is very unrestrained and forceful. Double strike is red because red gets in fights all the time and has become a good scrapper. Temporary draw is red because it focuses on the here and now. If you can’t get immediate gratification, red’s not interested.

Praise for Flamespeaker

Maro I just wanted to say how awesome Prophetic Flamespeaker is. I love that you finally used Chandra's ability on another card. I think it has a lot of potential

Thank all of you guys. This ability came from discussions on this very blog.

Red Creature Attributes

Prophetic Flamespeaker and Ember Swallower are red creatures with higher toughness than power, which doesn't seem very red. Was this a development tweak for constructed reasons or originally in the design?

Just because red usually has power greater than or equal to toughness doesn’t mean it can never have a greater toughness.
