Card Ability Request

I would like to request a white card with the rat colony / slime against humanity / dragons approach / persistent petitioners ability.

It will happen eventually.

Basic Supertype Consideration

New 09 Feb 2022 Asked by armadagon 41 Comments

Mark, was there ever any consideration to giving the "You can play any number of " cards like Persistent Petitioners, Relentless Rats, and Dragon's Approach the Basic supertype, then expanding the rule that lets you play any number of copies of a Basic Land in your deck to include any card with the Basic supertype? It would allow you to save a line of rules text for these kinds of cards.

But it causes different issues. Basic means other things than “you can play more than four”.

Color Access to Copy Mechanics

New 03 Jan 2021 Asked by dch52 36 Comments

Are rat/persistent petitioners effects specific to black/blue in the color pie, or is it primarily/exclusively a flavor decision?

Any color is allowed access to “you may have as many copies of this in a deck”.

Considerations on 'Basic' Supertype

New 07 Nov 2020 Asked by evscfa1 31 Comments

Have you ever considered making the "Basic" supertype be what determines if a deck can have any number of copies? For example turning Persistent Petitioners into a "Basic Creature". Clears up card space and would already fit in line with what the Basic supertype already does with basic lands and basic snow lands.

For technical rules reasons, Basic can’t have that functionality. Also, it’s important to note that deck limitations is a tournament issue, not a games rules issue. (The rules can say “any number can be played” on specific cards.)

Prospects of Infinite Copy Cards

New 14 Mar 2020 Asked by typical-davinci-impersonator 53 Comments

Have you ever thought of creating more cards that say “you can have any number of CARDNAME in your deck” like persistent petitioners or shadowborne apostles? Red, white, and green (to my knowledge) have no cards with such effects. I play almost exclusively commander and I peruse scryfall religously.

We’ll make more, but we do them infrequently. I do think we’ll see them eventually in all five colors.

Color's Third Rats Card

New 10 Oct 2019 Asked by suigenyukiouji 32 Comments

"purplebackpack89 asked: I was really surprised that Red was the second color to get a Plague Rats/Relentless Rats-type card." Technically it was the third, since Blue got one in Ravnica Allegiance with Persistent Petitioners.

Good point.

Seven Dwarves Exception

New 11 Sep 2019 Asked by totallyjazzed 46 Comments

Do the Seven Dwarves get around singleton deck restrictions like Relentless Rats/Persistent Petitioners?

I believe so. It’s the same thing, but with a cap on the number.

Cycle Completion Timeline

New 15 Apr 2019 Asked by persistentpetitioner-blog 48 Comments

Could we see a complete cycle for rat colony and persistent petitioners over the course of the next few sets?

I think we’ll let every color get a “you can have as many of these as you want” eventually, but it’s not a cycle and it isn’t on any schedule to happen.

Persistent Petitioners Props

New 26 Jan 2019 Asked by evileyeball 52 Comments

Hey Mark, give a high five to whomever was responsible for persistent petitioners. And another to whomever decided that owning 4 in arena gets you unlimited of those sort of cards.

Will do!

Petitioners Color Break

New 12 Jan 2019 Asked by jonathan-hecht 43 Comments

im very curious about Persistent Petitioners, how come its the first time a card with the "relentless effect" is not in black? and does it mean there will be a chance that each color will have at the very least one card with such an effect?

The “play as many as you want” mechanic (what R&D calls “Relentless”) is not limited to black. It’s just the color to have the first two. Any color can have Relentless.
