Pernicious Deed

Non-permanent Spells Explanation

New 26 Jan 2022 Asked by what-i-cant-hear-you 46 Comments

I would say that "non-permanent spell" is more future proof, like how Pernicious Deed was clearly trying to destroy all kinds of nonland permanents but now it leaves Planeswalkers behind too.

But we stopped doing “destroy noncreature permanent” in green because we didn’t want green destroying planeswalkers. Unintended exclusion is less problematic than unintended inclusion when future-proofing.

Is pernicious deed a break?

No. Not even a bend.

Pernicious Deed Trivia

Mark, today is my 28th birthday and I have been playing magic for the last 14 years now. I would like to ask you some trivia about my favourite card Pernicious Deed and if we could ever see it reprinted in standard? :-)

My favorite story about Pernicious Deed is how the card got a player into college. He wrote me a letter explaining that his top college choice required a certain SAT (college test) minimum and he just cleared it on the verbal portion partly because one of the vocabulary words was “pernicious”. The only reason he said he knew the word was the card. I have no idea of its power level, but my guess is a smidgen too high for Standard. Happy Birthday!

I remember there was a story about pernicious deed, but I forgot the details. Something about a thesaurus? Can you help me remember?

Someone wrote to me about how they got the verbal SAT score they needed for college because they knew what “pernicious” meant thanks to Magic.

Hi Mark, it's finally my birthday! Can you give me some trivia on my first (and favourite) gold cards, Pernicious Deed or Spiritmonger? Keep doing what you do, looking forward to BFZ!

Spritimonger was part of a contest where the audience got to write the card concept. Many people send ideas in and the audience picked the one that was used.Happy Birthday!

It's finally time for my "birthday question"! You got any inside scoop about my favorite card Pernicious Deed? Thanks :)

I once got a letter from a fan who said that knowing the word Pernicious was what got his SAT’s highest enough to get into his college of choice. To help future students, it means “deadly or fatal”. : ) Happy birthday!

Mana Cost Mechanics

New 23 Aug 2013 Asked by bennici85-blog 11 Comments

Is caring about converted mana cost (Pernicious Deed, Gaze of Granite, Abrupt Decay) a B/G thing? If so, how does that fit into the individual color pies of Green or Black? None of the other colors seem to care outside of dedicated "CMC matters"-blocks or the occasional counter like Spell Snare.

All the colors can care but I agree black and green tend to care a little more often.
