Narcomoeba's Flavor

New 13 Jul 2020 Asked by myfavoriteflavorisblue 39 Comments

Is the flavor of Narcomoeba that it comes to you when you forget it? What inspired its design?

I was trying to design a futureshifted card, so I was looking for a way to mess with something we hadn’t messed with before. I designed it and Bridge from Below at the same time.

Narcomoeba in Surveil

New 08 Sep 2018 Asked by asthner-blog 36 Comments

I just took a peek at GRN’s spoiler and my immediate reaction was that Narcomoeba’s inclusion in a set with Surveil seems like a home-run. I’m actually not all that much in the mood for Ravnica, but this got me somewhat excited. :)

I’m too am happy to see Narcomoeba return.

Narcomoeba's Paradox

New 03 Sep 2018 Asked by carmillatype 130 Comments

Narcomoeba has actually appeared in two sets before Guilds of Ravnica: Future Sight and Modern Masters. Future Sight of course has it as a card from the future, so there's no questions there that it got the card from its "original" printing in the future. But Modern Masters is a set of only reprints, with no new cards, so it has to have cards from the past. Which begs the question: where did Modern Masters get Narcomoeba from?

It’s a paradox. Confusing time travel.

Future Sight and Ravnica

New 03 Sep 2018 Asked by gophilipbowles 75 Comments

Most of the Future Sight cards that eventually made it into sets were not from a known plane, although the difference in art style implies that Aven Mincensor at least was not originally from an 'Egyptian world'. Narcomoeba's original flavour text is explicit that it was made by the Iquati, later identified in Planechase as coming from a plane imaginatively named Iquatana. Does Narcomoeba now being from Ravnica render the Iquatana 'possible future' non-canon?

Hitting both the mechanics and flavor on a Future-shifted card is very hard to accomplish. We assume hitting the mechanics with a flavor twist is better than never doing it.

Designed Dredge Cards

New 24 Aug 2018 Asked by celestialtyrant 66 Comments

Isn't it true that you also designed Bridge from Below and Narcomoeba, this enabling the original builds of dredge?

Not only did I designed them both, but I did it during the same hour of last-minute hole filling. Also, I have made a huge amount of graveyard mattering cards.

Narcomoeba Ability Color

New 09 Nov 2017 Asked by somnomancer-deactivated20190915 29 Comments

Can the "Narcomoeba" ability be in other colours? (When milled, put directly into play)

I’m not sure it’s an ability we can do in enough volume that it’s a certain color’s thing.

Narcomoeba Origin

Hello :D I think my ask got lost in everything else, but was wondering if you'd be willing to give some birthday trivia on the narcomoeba or Lord Windgrace. (Sent the previous version yesterday on the actual day. Sorry)

Narcomoeba came about because I had a future-shifted card to fill and I wanted something that worked with milling differently.Happy Belated Birthday!

Futureshifted Cards Trivia

New 18 Jun 2016 Asked by zephramtripp 52 Comments

Hey, Mark! It's my birthday today and I would appreciate some trivia on the Futureshifted cards from Future Sight.

Narcomoeba and Bridge from Below were both designed by me at the last minute to fill holes right before development was done. I made both of them within minutes of one another. Happy Birthday!

Graveyard Effects Future

New 22 Aug 2015 Asked by fearthemongoose-blog 15 Comments

How likely is it that we will ever see more cards with effects when they are put into the graveyard from anywhere (or just the library), such as Narcomoeba?

I assume we’ll do it some day.

Library Matters Complexity

"Library matters": I was thinking about stuff like Narcomoeba and Panglacial Wurm which play around the library.

There’s not much elegant, simple design space there.
