Possibility of Yanling and Yanggu Returns

New 15 Aug 2021 Asked by side-lamp 34 Comments

Will we ever see anymore of Mu Yanling and/or Jiang Yanggu? How about their homeplane, the Plane of Mountains and Seas?

I think there’s a better chance of seeing the planeswalkers than their home plane, but both are possibilities.

Trivia on Mu Yanling

New 10 Aug 2021 Asked by stromausfall 26 Comments

Hello Maro! It's finally my birthday and I would like to request a piece of trivia on Mu Yanling :)

Yanling was designed as part of a core set-like product specifically created for the Chinese market. I believe she’s inspired by Chinese mythology. Happy Birthday!

Blue Planeswalker's Water Manipulation

New 11 Jun 2021 Asked by jjustin1379 56 Comments

Can we see a blue planeswalker that is more about manipulating water?

I believe with Thassa’s Bident, Kiora can manipulate water. EDIT: Also, Mu Yanling.

Future of Global Series

New 23 Aug 2020 Asked by moonsliceman 34 Comments

It's been two years since Jiang Yanggu and Mu Yanling debuted. Can you say whether Global Series will be a series?

It was created to do an introductory product for the Chinese market. If we have the need for another introductory product in a new country, I assume we’d consider it.

Where is Mu Yanling on the Venser Scale?

I’d call her a 5.

Planeswalkers' Origin Planes

Are Mu Yanling and Jiang Yanggu from the same plane that Portal second and third age take place on?

I do not believe so.

Naming Cultural Respect

New 17 Jul 2019 Asked by szwanger 27 Comments

Why are Mu Yanling and Jiang Wanggu always referred to by their full names on their cards, instead of (like most other planeswalkers) their given name? E.g. why not “Yanling, Sky Dancer”?

Because the fact that their familiar name is second (that’s how Chinese names are ordered) tends to throw people.

Missed Card Mention

What, no "Mu Yanling, Air Supply?"

Oops. I should have included that.

Core20 Legends Background

New 06 Jul 2019 Asked by kilconey 54 Comments

Do we know what planes the Core20 legends are from? In the past we've had members of the creative team break stuff like that down for us, like with commander legendaries, but it seems to have waned recently.

Ajani is from the Naya shard of Alara. Mu Yanling is from the Plane of Mountain and Seas.Sorin is from Innistrad.Chandra is from Kaladesh.Vivien is from Skalla, a plane that has been destroyed.

Set Confirmation Status

New 28 Jun 2019 Asked by groundawesome 62 Comments

Can you confirm that the next set ISN'T "the Plane of Mountains and Seas" that Jiang Yanggu and Mu Yanling are from?

I can confirm nothing. Well, other than it’s a new plane because I already confirmed that.

Planeswalker Costing

New 24 Jun 2019 Asked by aringa90 36 Comments

Hello Mark,I am excited to see mu yanling in standard. Since I love 2 cmc planeswalkers I keep wondering if she could have received a more aggressive cmc (UU) without being broken. What do you think?

A lot of time was spent costing her correctly for Standard. She’s the cost she needs to be.

Planeswalker Set Presence

New 18 Jun 2019 Asked by thedinorobot 64 Comments

Why wasn't there a mu yanling card when jiang had one? Was it because there were already too many planeswalkers?

The two Chinese-inspired planeswalkers don’t have to always co-exist in sets together.

Mu Yanling's Appearance

Do you know if Mu Yanling is gonna make an appearance in the WAR storyline, even if she doesn’t have a card in the set?

I don’t believe so. I gave faith we’ll see her again though.

Bringing Back Planeswalkers

New 06 Apr 2019 Asked by aringa90 52 Comments

Since jiang yanggu has made a debut in standard (and probably mu yanling will also show up in the future) are there any plans also for Aminatou or Estrid? I would really like to see them play a part within Magic history (even a minor role would be fine

We’re always looking to bring back known planeswalkers where we can. Note that monocolor planeswalkers are easier to work in than three-color.

Mu Yanling Plans

New 02 Apr 2019 Asked by mgmegadog 61 Comments

Does Yanling show up in the story at all? It seems weird to only include one of the two Global Series planeswalkers.

We have plans for Mu Yanling. They just don’t include War of the Spark.
