Creature Token Transformation

New 31 Mar 2023 Asked by space-wizards 38 Comments

can Phyrexian creature tokens from Incubators be transformed back into Incubators through another card's effect? Something like Moonmist and Blades of Velis Vel could do it.

If a card allows you to transform it.

Moonmist Card Transformation

Do you think we could one day see a moonmist card that also turns day into night?

I do.

Moonmist Transformation Limits

New 24 Sep 2021 Asked by lordofnite 55 Comments

Why doesn't moonmist transform the human side of the new werewolves. It precisely says transform all humans, it doesn't care if it's day or night. Like immerwolf.

I believe the issue is that daybound creatures can’t turn to their night bound side of it isn’t night.

Confirming Bound Creatures' Limits

New 04 Sep 2021 Asked by strymon 37 Comments

Why was it decided to make ‘bound’ creatures only transform with Day and Night, rather than allow effects like Moonmist to function?

It’s better to make the system consistent and intuitive rather than change it to interact differently with one card.

Delving into DFC

New 18 Dec 2020 Asked by jonpaulcardenas 34 Comments

I have some DFC questions. So what happens if I have a Blackbloom rogue in play and I cast MoonMist? If I have Oracle of Mul daya out Can I play Blackbloom Rogue from the top of my Library? Is there any Traditional DFC that can get to its back side without using Transform? Is there currently any MDFC that can get to its back side with Transform? How do MDFC get to there Backside?

You can only transform a card with transform. Moonmist is merely creating a different way to transform cards with transform. A MDFC doesn’t have transform, so it can’t be transformed.

Query on MDFCs Transformation

New 29 Nov 2020 Asked by annorax 30 Comments

Can MDFCs transform if something else tries to make them do it? Theoretically, if I cast a MDFC that's a Human creature on one side and some kind of permanent on the other, then cast Moonmist, would that Human transform?

Moonmist affects thing that transform not things that are double-faced.

Modal DFC's Reaction to Moonmist

New 05 Sep 2020 Asked by rowanalpha 51 Comments

If I have a Modal DFC in play that is a Human Creature, and play Moonmist (Transform all Humans), it will still flip over to its land side, right?

No. Transforming cards only forces cards to transform that can naturally transform. MDFCs don’t transform.

Colorshift to Blue

New 19 Jun 2018 Asked by barooky 34 Comments

"Exile when not cast" is a white effect (Containment Priest, Hallowed Moonlight). What was the reason to colorshift it with Mist Caller and why it had to blue out of all colors, which already has plenty of combo hate?

Certain effects get to be in more than one color. Think of Moonmist as a counterspell variant.

Double-Faced Cards

New 31 Jul 2017 Asked by experimentkraj 34 Comments

Re: "'Is double faced a referable property for a MTG card?' I think so. Not 100% sure." Moonmist's reminder text refers to double-faced cards.

Good point.

Meld vs Transform

New 04 Aug 2016 Asked by bordergeist 41 Comments

You said, "Meld still uses transform." From a formal rules perspective, I'm pretty sure this is incorrect. For example, if you cast Moonmist while there's a Midnight Scavengers in play, the Scavenger doesn't even attempt to transform.

Oops. You’re right. Meld is technically different from Transform. My point was that both use double-face cards similarly from a mechanical viewpoint.

Moonmist Planeswalkers Interaction

New 26 Sep 2015 Asked by mashugasnewblog-blog 28 Comments

Was it ever on designs mind that moonmist would be able to transform the Planeswalkers from Origins and bypass their conditions?

It wasn’t done on purpose but we were aware of it. Note it doesn’t work on Nissa as she’s an Elf and not a Human. EDIT: And yes, the Human planeswalkers will have no loyalty and go to the graveyard.

Transform Planeswalker Insight

New 24 Jul 2015 Asked by mrpopogod 41 Comments

Is it a coincidence that the green transform planeswalker is the only one that isn't a human, and thus can use Moonmist as removal?

: )

Moonmist's Planeswalker Impact

New 24 Jul 2015 Asked by darkraigiratina-blog 37 Comments

Does Moonmist kill the new flip planeswalker?

It kills all the double-faced planeswalkers but Nissa as she’s not Human.

Moonmist Future Thought

New 18 Jun 2015 Asked by frosty-mage-stuff 24 Comments

When making moonmist, did you ever think about the interactions with future cards with the transform mechanic?

No. Usually you just focus on cards that do exist not cards that potentially one day might exist.

Gideon's Unique Weakness

New 18 Jun 2015 Asked by 4blackout 51 Comments

Moonmist does take away Gideon's Planeswalker Spark! At least if it's used when he (as a Planeswalker) uses his "0 ability" to become a creature until end of turn. That's pretty hilarious. I guess we found his only weakness! :D

No, but I believe it kills legendary creature Gideon. Check with Tabak.

Moonmist Planeswalker Fate

New 11 Jun 2015 Asked by manshadow3 22 Comments

As mentioned earlier moonmist can transform some of the Origins Planeswalkers will they immediately die from having no loyalty or will they instead gain their starting loyalty

I believe they die, but ask Tabak.

Moonmist Interaction

New 10 Jun 2015 Asked by fruhni 47 Comments

How do you feel about the fact that Moonmist transforms some of the DFC Planeswalkers from Origins?

Unintended card interactions are one of the great joys of Magic (and of most trading card games really).

Moonmist Mechanics

New 21 Apr 2015 Asked by kothofthehammer 46 Comments

Why does moonmist kill the Origins Planeswalkers? Doesn`t it transform them?

No, because how they transform works differently. Note that it doesn’t affect Nissa because she is not a Human.

Moonmist Card Paradox

New 21 Apr 2015 Asked by tsumiband-blog 60 Comments

Does it bug you at all that Moonmist - a card apparently intended to work very well with Innistrad - is a weird sort of planeswalker kill spell regarding what's currently known about Magic Origins? Is there a weird sort of flavor fail going on there, where something that is good for lycanthropic humans is actually pretty terrible for humans with a latent spark?

Magic is going to have quirky card interactions. It’s a nature of being a trading card game. I see it more of a feature than a bug.
