Silver Border Milling

silver border rules question: if i have split screen in play and am milled by some effect, lets say i dredge life from the loam for example, do i pick which deck i get milled from for each card or do i pick one deck and mill the 3 cards from that deck?

You pick one library per effect.

Remastered Set Limits

Could future "Remastered" sets play loose with the design restriction and include some things from outside the scope but re-flavor them to make sense in the Remastered setting? For example, could a hypothetical "Innistrad Remastered" include Life from the Loam but with art and flavor set on the plane of Innistrad?

That’s currently off limits for Remastered sets.

Commander Muldrotha, the Gravetide Trivia

hello Maro! thank you for doing so much fan interaction. i regularly cite your responses during games even if no one else at the table cares (my fault, talky). my bday is on the 19th. could i please get some trivia on the commander i keep brewing over and over again, Muldrotha, the Gravetide? or maybe the one card value engine, Life from the Loam?

One of the things we always look for in any set is card designs that hit a basic effect, but do it in a way that only that set could do. This way we’re not eating into future card design space. Life From the Loam was made as a clever way for green to fetch land. I think it started getting two lands, but got changed to three. Obviously, it turned out to be one of the most powerful dredge cards.Happy Birthday!

Will we see Life from the Loam again in Standard?

It’s unlikely.

Life from the Loam Trivia

Can I have some birthday trivia on my favorite card, Life from the Loam? Failing that some trivia on dredge in general is also acceptable.

During original Ravnica, the design team had a very hard time with the Golgari mechanic. Dredge was something like the fortieth mechanic we tried. Originally, it didn’t having any milling as a cost. You could just choose to draw it from the graveyard whenever you could draw a card. The balancing was that they were overcosted cards. The milling cost was added by the development team. Happy Birthday!

Future of Dredge

I absolutely love dredge. it's my favorite mechanic, so im really upset that it's a 9.9 on the storm scale. Can we ever see weaker dredge cards like dark blast or life from the loam again? I would absolutely LOVE to see it again and not be busted. Please tell me that's possible!

Remember the Storm Scale is just for Standard-legal sets.

Future of Dredge

Do you think we'll ever see more dredge cards with smaller dredge numbers? I love cards like Life from the Loam and it only seems the larger dredge numbers are inherently broken. I'd love to see more dredge, it's just so cool.

The problem is Dredge is inherently busted. Makes creating more problematic.

Hello Maro. Yesterday was my 21 birthday, so could you please give me some trivia about my all-time-favorite, Life from the Loam? Also, there is another one. Would you please High-five your clone who was in charge of KTK? Its awesome set so far!

The Golgari are all about recycling so we were finding different things they could get back. Getting back lands from the graveyard is an ability that green gets in sets where it matters so it felt like a good inclusion. It was given dredge because that was the Golgari mechanic. Happy Belated Birthday! By the way, I high-fived all the clones involved with Khans of Tarkir.
