First Created Cards

New 13 Apr 2024 Asked by stormcrow13 62 Comments

Do you remember what the first card you made that got printed was

It was three cards in Alliances: Gustha’s Scepter, Library of Lat-Nam, and Soldier of Fortune. I also named Force of Will. I didn’t like the name it had, knew it was going to be the hot card from the set, and said it needed a better name. The person in charge of the name said, “Come up with a better name and we’ll change it,” so I did.

Birthday Trivia Request

Hello MaRo, today (the first) is acting as my birthday. I was wondering if I could get some trivia, if you can remember it, what was the first card you designed chronologically that saw print, or any rare old trivia. Happy new year.

The first three cards I designed that saw print were on the first set I worked on, Alliances (I was one of 13 people on the development team). I designed Gustha’s Scepter, Library of Lat-Nam and Solider of Fortune. All were hole fills for cards killed in development.Happy Birthday’

Soldier of Fortune Reprint

Does R&D's recent leaning away from effects that cause library shuffling mean I should give up hope in a Soldier of Fortune reprint?

Of possible reprints, Soldier of Fortune is low. Little trivia - Soldier of Fortune (along with Gustha’s Scepter and Library of Lat-nam) is the first design I did to see print.

What was the first set you designed cards for that made it to print? (Or; what is the first card you designed that saw print in a Magic expansion?)

Wouldn't Maro be your first design that saw print since it filled a hole in Mirage?

The question was which card was designed earliest not printed earliest. Printed earliest are three cards in Alliances (Gustha’s Scepter, Soldier of Fortune and Library of Lat-Nam).

Librarians in Magic

New 11 Feb 2014 Asked by midnitelibrary 44 Comments

So there are a number of library cards in Magic (Library of Lat-Nam, Library of Alexandria, etc.), but the only two librarians are an orc and a horror (not exactly who I'd want in charge of a library). What's the deal? As a librarian who plays Magic I'd love for their to be more librarians in future sets!

You’re forgetting Phyrexian Librarian from Unhinged. : )
