Into the Maw of Hell

Red Color Pie

Do "Into the Maw of Hell" and "Blasphemous Act" bend or break red's color pie, since technically they do damage, but they're effectively hard removal?

We’ve decided to be more careful about how much damage Red can do. “Deal 13″ and “Destroy target creature” are pretty similar.

Red Damage in Innistrad

I don't remember if this was Blasphemous Act or Into the Maw of Hell, but someone said it was originally 7 damage, but since 7 and 13 damage play the same and 13 was a theme of Innistrad, they switched it. (This might've even been from DTW.)

13 was definitely done to tie it to Innistrad’s 13 theme. I’m saying now, I believe dong so on a Red direct damage spell was a mistake.

Trivia on 13

Since it's Friday the 13th (and my sister's birthday), could you give some trivia on blasphemous act?

Into the Maw of Hell’s design name was Into the Hellmouth which was a nod to the television show “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer”. The card was designed by creative team and Innistrad design team member Jenna Helland. EDIT: I didn’t have any good trivia so I talked about a different 13 card.

Significance of 13

How do you decide seemingly arbitrary values in instances like Tragic Slip's -13/-13 effect or Army of the Damned's 13 Zombies or Into the Maw of Hell's 13 damage? Is 13 commonly used to represent a big number because it's perceived as an unlucky number, or does this come out of playtesting as an ideal choice in these cases?

13 was a theme of Innistrad because it’s a symbol of bad luck.

Significance of 13

This may have been asked before, but what was the significance of the number 13 in the Innistrad block (Into The Maw of Hell, Curse of the Skisfang, Withengar Unbowed, Tragic Slip, etc)??

The number thirteen superstitiously brings bad luck so it is used often in horror films.

Innistrad Number Theme

Was there something special about the number 13 for Innistrad block? (referring to Blasphemous Act, Tragic Slip, and Into the Maw of Hell)

Yes, it was a mini theme in the block due to the status of 13 being a superstitiously unlucky number.

Whedon Tribute

I have a little collection of "Joss Whedon" cards: Undead Slayer, Repentant Vampire, Firefly, and Serenity. (I am considering adding cards like Hush and Once More with Feeling to this list as well, maybe even Into the Maw of Hell). I know you're a fellow Joss Whedon fan, so ... any hope for a card called "Dollhouse"? It'd round out my collection nicely.

We have Creepy Doll. By the way, you want to add Gallantry to your list. The art for it and Repentant Vampire were done together (aka it’s one big picture).
