Goblin Bookie Rules Issues

RE silver borders which should be legal: goblin bookie is a great card for coin flipping decks thats balanced and no rules issues. Could really use a reprint too.

I wouldn’t say that card has no rules issues.

Goblin Bookie Ability

Does the Goblin Bookie Reroll ability count as a new dice rolling trigger? Would Feywild Trickster trigger once or twice if I use the Goblin Bookie Ability on any dice rolls?

No. Rerolling counts in place of the original roll for things caring about rolling.

Possibility of Unacorned Goblin Bookie

New 03 Dec 2021 Asked by morjoko-blog 20 Comments

Can Goblin Bookie work in Black-border? Or I guess more specifically, can it be unacorned in a future set?

Goblin Bookie itself plays fast and loose with the rules. I do think a card that is somewhat similar could potentially be made in black border.

Possibility of Goblin Bookie Reprint

Now that dice rolling is in black border can we get a functional reprint of Goblin Bookie in black border?

I don’t think that card technically works in black border. The Un-rules were “don’t question it, it just works”.

Since we got a “maybe” for die rolls in the D&D sets, can we get a “maybe” on a black-border Goblin Bookie?

Maybe. : )

If I use Goblin Bookie to reroll a die, do both die rolls count for As Luck Would Have It or just the rerolled die?

Both rolls count.

Un-cards Oracle Update

Is the possible Oracle update to the Un-cards going to include making Goblin Bookie actually work?

The FAQ says it works. Isn’t that enough?

Goblin Bookie Query

New 02 Apr 2017 Asked by jdenault 11 Comments

[Unglued Question] This is a question about Goblin Bookie. Lets say I'm playing Vial Smasher, and I have to choose an enemy at random for its effect. I decide to roll a dice to choose: Can I use Goblin Bookie to reroll the dice if I don't like the random choice?

No. It can only reroll dice actually specified by a card.

Goblin Bookie's Future

New 24 Jul 2015 Asked by nobthehobbit 25 Comments

If the Un-sets ever get updated wordings, would Goblin Bookie continue to be worded as it is now and just get a ruling stating that it can be activated in the middle of resolving a spell or ability, or would it be reworded to work within the current rules framework?

I’m not sure if what Goblin Bookie does can be done in black-border so good thing he’s silver bordered where we just let things work out of sheer will power.

Goblin Bookie's Future

Chances that Goblin Bookie could ever see black border?

As it references dice rolling, chances are low. Also, the card technically only works because in the FAQ, I said it did.

Unique Card Appreciation

New 18 Nov 2013 Asked by altimis 11 Comments

17/11/2013: I just want to say thank you for the Un sets. My favorite card is because of its flavor text. I have never not laughed at the fact that the reminder text is reminding you that neither it, nor the ability, work. Thanks!

You’re favorite card is Goblin Bookie? : )

Goblin Bookie Ranking

Goblin Bookie on the Un-Scale?

We’d first have to get die rolling in black border. If that happened, Goblin Bookie would have a good shot.

If I'm playing Planechase Unglued, and have a Goblin Bookie in play, can it be used to reroll the planar die? (If you do get a chance to create a third Unglued set, I'd love to see a card that triggers an effect each time a die is rolled or a coin is flipped.)

Yes, Goblin Bookie can reroll any die including the planar die.

Goblin Bookie Functionality

New 26 Jun 2012 Asked by cipher-x 10 Comments

Someone pointed out earlier that Goblin Bookie doesn't really work because you can't activate it in the middle of resolving a die roll/coin flip ability. As the silver-bordered Rules Manager, what's your take on this?

It doesn’t work in black-bordered Magic but it does in silver-bordered Magic. Why? Because in silver-bordered land, I’m the Rules Manager and I’m more willing to let cards work just because. In fact, the FAQ for Unglued (called the QAS - Question Asked Sometimes) states that Goblin Bookie “just works”.

Black Border Potential

Gerrymandering, Goblin bookie, Hungry Hungry Heifer, Mine mine mine!, mirror mirror, once more with feeling. Could these cards be printed in black bordered world with color pie and ruling ajustments?

Assuming we avoid the same name in black border/silver border issue, here’s where they stand: Gerrymandering: Fine in black border. Quirky for green but doable. Goblin Bookie: Has the problem of dice not meaning anything in black bordered Magic. Fits red fine. Hungry Hungry Heifer: Could be done in black border design-wise. I don’t know about development-wise. I’m not sure what color gets this philosophically so green seems fine. Mine, Mine, Mine!: Same as Hungry Hungry Heifer except I think I know this is broken development-wise. Pretty sure this wants to be blue not green. Once More With Feeling: Fine design-wise. I think fine development-wise but not my call. White seems fine.

Does Goblin Bookie allow you to reroll a planar die?

If you’re playing with silver-bordered cards, yes. Edit: Obviously you’re playing with silver-bordered cards, you’re playing with Goblin Bookie. Pretend I just said: Yes".

If you roll a 6 on a six sided die, but re-roll it with goblin bookie, will all of your chickens get +1/+1 counters from chicken a la king?

No. A reroll means the original roll didn’t happen.
