Gimme Five

Trivia for the Number 30

New 21 Jun 2023 Asked by paladin-of-the-small 34 Comments

Today is my 30th birthday. Do you have trivia regarding the number “30”?

There are only three cards in the game that have the word “thirty” in their rules text. Gimme Five (from Unstable) and Carnival Barker (from Unfinity) have a mechanic that gives you “thirty seconds” to do something. Lux Artillery (from Phyrexia: All Will Be One Commander) cares about if you have thirty or more counters among your artifacts and creatures.Happy Birthday!

Doubling Season Query

Just to be clear Doubling Season doesn't actually double high fives for cards like Gimme Five, right?

No. : )

Un-set Trivia Request

My birthday is coming up, can I have some un-set trivia?

Hot Fix and Gimme Five were originally cards with a mechanic called Stopwatch that forced you to do certain actions in a set amount of time. Happy Birthday!

GDS Color Assignment

New 15 Jan 2018 Asked by npcdesigner-blog 29 Comments

In the first GDS, there was a challenge called Gimme Five - a five card cycle at rare, uncommon, and common. I noticed none of the contestants designed multicolored cards. Would that have been against the spirit of the challenge?

I believe they were assigned colors.

Un-card Expertise

With all the high-fives you give, you must be super effective when you resolve Gimme Five! Or maybe that just comes with being the master of all things Un- regardless

I’m a Gimme Five master. : )

High Five Inspiration

New 21 Dec 2017 Asked by silpheed-tandy 39 Comments

was the mini-motif of High Fiving players inspired by all the requests to dispense high-fives, that you have gotten through Blogatog?

I like to think of Gimme Five as a new d to Blogatog. Sssh, don’t tell anyone.

No, you may not. You have to high-five another player.

Gimme Five Impact

New 17 Dec 2017 Asked by mrmoustachemm 47 Comments

Yesterday at my LGS we drafted Unstable, and I played Gimme Five three times, high fiving 9, 10, and 13 people on three separate occasions! Many were other customers who were surprised and confused but happy to join in on some high fives. So not only did I have fun, but I brought a little extra cheer to the store! Thanks for including such fun cards in the set!

When I put Gimme Five in the set, I said, how many Magic cards can make someone not playing Magic feel better?

Unstable High-Five Story

New 10 Dec 2017 Asked by chrisgodinho 48 Comments

"kristbg asked: Thanks for Unstable, Mark. I had a blast today (and I got to high-five over 50 people)! MR: Was that all in one 30 second spell resolution?" It wasn't. The most I got with one Gimme Five resolution was 22 people (including some slightly scared Legacy players :) )

Gimme Five Lifegain

New 09 Dec 2017 Asked by piccadilly-blue 95 Comments

You know, I didn't think that Gimme Five would be all that great, but tonight I was consistently gaining between 15 and 20 life with every cast and for one mana to boot. Telling people they're gonna gain 1 life is a very compelling offer.

I’m curious to hear what is the number of the highest life gain earned by Gimme Five was.

Squirrel Dealer Rules

New 25 Nov 2017 Asked by causticclown 30 Comments

For Squirrel Dealer does the person you ask have to physically be there? Or is it ok for you to phone/message a friend since theres not a specified time limit like in Gimme Five?

You can phone or text without outside assistance that doesn’t require physical presence.

Changing Card Names

New 23 Nov 2017 Asked by gman-003 34 Comments

Can I use More or Less to change a card's name? Say, "Gimme Five" to "Gimme Four", or "Better than One" to "Better than Two"? "The Countdown Is At Two"? "Four-Headed Goblin"? I have no idea why anyone would want to do this, since it doesn't change the rules text in any way, but I'm sure I'll find a crazy exploit somehow.

You can and it does matter; there are numerous silver-bordered cards that care about qualities of the name.
