Gemstone Mine

Kangee Pronunciation

New 02 Dec 2023 Asked by makesasound 28 Comments

Is Kangee pronounced with a hard G (as in "Glasses of Urza") or a soft G (as in "Gemstone Mine")?

I say it with a hard G, but I have no proof that’s correct.

Notable Tournament Appearance

FYI: Maro's most notable tournament appearance was in Five-Color Green, a precursor to Zoo that used the most efficient creatures and removal spells of every color, supported by Gemstone Mine and Reflecting Pool. Maro was the top of the curve due to its synergy with Quirion Ranger. It also saw some play in G/W Armageddon decks after Ernham Djinn rotated.

Tempest Set Insights

New 29 Mar 2013 Asked by earthtoneoverload-blog 6 Comments

Please say something about Tempest. It is my favorite set but isn't talked about that much.

Go listen to my very first “Drive to Work” podcast. I talk about it for thirty minutes. Okay, here’s a piece of trivia. What was the first card designed in Tempest design to be printed?  The answer is Gemstone Mine (printed in Weatherlight). They needed a card in development so they followed a long R&D tradition, they stole it from a future set which would have more time to find a replacement. The playtest name for the card was Three Shot City of Brass.

Dredge Deck Contribution

It's hard to send you a Dredge list since Tumblr doesn't allow links and also doesn't give enough room to copypaste the decklist into the question field, but Ando Ferguson made top 8 at GP Indianapolis with a Dredge deck and you can see his list if you look up the coverage.

Cards from that deck that I had a hand in creating: Cephalid Colisseum, Gemstone Mine, Tarnished Citadel, Flayer of the Hatebound, Golgari Grave-Troll, Golgari Thug, Ichorid, Narcomeba, Stinkweed Imp, Breakthrough, Bridge from Below, Cabal Therapy, Dread Return, Faithless Looting, Lion’s Eye Diamond, Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, Iona, Shield of Emeria. You’ll also notice that about 90+% of the cards come from sets I lead.
