Fissure

Red's Removal Query

If White can get Blessed Light, which according to you is a break just like StP and PtE, why can’t Red get Fissure?

White can get Blessed Light. It’s not even a bend.

Red's Restrictions

You said, "Red can’t “destroy” non-artifact colorless creatures." Well, you just made Fissure, Aftershock, Cinder Cloud, Fleshpulper Giant, Lava Flow, Mogg Assassin, Nosy Goblin, and Stark of Rath cry.

When I talk about the color pie, I always mean currently. Yes, there are often examples from past where we did something we would no longer do.

Color Pie Rules

So if red doesn't get destroy creature anymore, are cards like fissure and cinder cloud violations of the color pie? Also, could a red and white card have "destroy target creature" on it?

They currently are out of color pie and we don’t do them. Red/white could have “destroy target creature” but probably only conditionally.

Creature Destruction Roles

Mark, red has always had ways to deal with high toughness creatures. Fissure, cinder cloud, diaochan, lava flow... Why haven't we seen any recent prints that do exactly that?

Because we’ve moved that out of red. Black and red are already very close and it’s important to have distinctions. Red kills with direct damage and high toughness is supposed to be a problem for it. Black is the color with straight-up creature destruction.

Storm Mechanic Critique

You keep talking about how storm is overpowered, and I tend to disagree. The problem is the cards printed - when you develop these cards, you just think "How bad is this if there are 20 copies every time?" and go from there. Wing Shards, Sprouting Vines, make for fine, fun limited cards. Flusterstorm, Hunting Pack, and Temporal Fissure (okay, maybe a version that cant hit lands) are all cards that are fun and not broken in standard. I do not see why storm could not come back with no combo cards.

You do understand that storm is the combo card. Also, if we have to nerf something so much to bring it to print, perhaps that’s a sign we’re not supposed to do it in the first place.
