Bolt Bend

Red Spell Redirect

Can Red still redirect spells a la Shunt? I see Bolt Bend in WAR as a recent card, but the last one before that seems to be OG Zendikar.

Red can still do that.

Reason Behind Phasing Out Keywords

Hi Mark, i hope youre doing well. Im curious why keywords like ferocious get phased out despite the fact that newer cards like bolt bend technically have ferocious. Is it because you dont think the effect needs a keyword, or do you not want a keyword to appear only on 1 card out of an entire set?

We don’t like using keywords on a card or two in a set unless it’s evergreen.

Targeting Cards Strategy

What is the point of making cool cards like bolt bend with a "change target of a spell" effect when nearly every card that targets nowadays specifies "target that you control" or " target an opponent controls? It feels like it cheapens the game by removing strategic play in that space.

I can redirect your Bolt from my 3 toughness creature to my 5 toughness creature. I agree though, I personally prefer the more open-ended targeting. I mostly play in paper though.

Bolt Bend Appreciation

In the spirit of passing you happiness along with criticism for the new set, so that you don't think we're just insatiable, I'd like to ask you to high five the person who pushed Bolt Bend into WAR. Mono-red carom effects don't get enough cards, and it saddens me when things like this never get new designs (because you may have silently decided not to do it anymore). Seeing it again is refreshing, even if the card isn't that strong. Thanks!
