Arc Lightning

On Functional Reprints

Why do you guys do functional reprints? (Ex: arc lightning vs flames of the firebrand?)

Usually it’s a flavor issue. Sometimes, we want to allow more copies in older/larger formats.

Spell Damage Mechanics

Isn't Arc Lightning a better example of the trample-like damage text in spells than Liquid Fire? (Granted, I know it's not exactly like trample, but it's close enough.) "Deal N damage divided between target creature and / or its controller" is much cleaner (I know the "or" is missing from Liquid Fire, probably accounting for the horrid, unintuitive, maybe unnecessary Oracle text).

There are plenty of ways to do it that are “kind of close”. The issue is we can’t do it exactly.

Red's Card Advantage

Regarding card advantage in Red: I think there should be more 2-for-1s. Every other color has a way to draw cards effectively, be it spell based (U/B) or creature based (W/G). It's extremely flavorful for Red to not have card draw and only generate advantage from 2-for-1s, reflecting the short term boon, and it makes Red more playable in EDH and the like. Kuldotha Flamefiend, Arc Trail, Arc Lightning, Into the Core are all very high picks in limited, that needs to be translated to Constructed!

Red and black fight for the #1 slot but they are the 2-for-1 kings, especially when you’re talking about the battlefield.
