Perspectives on Warp World Commander

New 14 Jul 2021 Asked by ginkasai 37 Comments

RE: Warp World. 10 people are in favor of a warp world commander, 7 are not in favor, and another 10 say that they're ok with the effect as a one-of but wouldn't want a repeatable commander. As far as salt, I will note its #26, sitting between Teferi, Time Raveler and Blightsteel Colossus on the salt list, if that means anything.

Concern about Removing Legendary Rule

New 10 Jan 2021 Asked by moonsliceman 49 Comments

Removing the legendary rule would terrorize every format even worse than removing the planeswalker restriction. Just think about the possibility of double Teferi, Time Raveler or Questing Beast, or more than one Sheoldred, Whispering One; any one of those cards can flip the table, but without legendary, there'd be a million of them. I'm just not sure what the benefits could be against that much brokenness. Considering all the strong legends lately, it needs to be more restrictive, not less.

My recommendation comes with a Unique mechanic that can be applied to the small number of cards that need the restriction. Note that the most played format right now is Comnander which is singleton. Adding more cards with legendary as a marker is mostly upside for Commander.

White's Powerful Card Pool

New 30 May 2020 Asked by owlprices 55 Comments

I have noticed that in recent sets, white has had a lot of powerful and in my opinion, unbalanced, cards such as All That Glitters, God-Eternal Oketra, Dawn of Hope, Heliod, Sun-Crowned, and multicolored cards like Dream Trawler, Lurrus of the Dream-Den, Teferi, Time Raveler, Winota, Joiner of Forces, and Zenith Flare. Has this been a coincidence, or is there a push in design to make a more powerful card pool for white?

We have been focusing on white as there was a large public outcry about it.

Stack Interaction Opinions

New 14 Sep 2019 Asked by tbjanowski 45 Comments

Given the extreme effort that has been tsken too to invalidate counter spells, instants and generally dealing with the stack with Teferi, Time Raveler, Veil of Autumn and now Deafening Silence; is there a forward push to eliminate stack interaction?

Extreme effort? You must think we really, really hate creature strategies. : )

Planeswalker Art Uniformity

New 14 Sep 2019 Asked by khunjund-blog 39 Comments

Why are planeswalker arts so similar? I was playing with both Teferi, Time Raveler, and Hero of Dominaria, and I scried the wrong one to the bottom because I got them mixed up. There are more varied ones (Sorin comes to mind), but even then, they all have the exact same clothing, and frequently have similar poses. Surely you could give artists a bit more liberty in depicting walkers without it hampering their recognizability? At least get them a change of clothes: they must be getting dirty.

The reason the clothes stay the same is so players recognize the character even though it might be illustrated by a different artist. It’s why, for example, cartoon characters tend to wear the same outfit.
