Future of Planeswalkers’ Artifacts

New 23 May 2022 Asked by luckbuck13 53 Comments

When/if: more Planeswalkers’ signature items/weapons as artifacts, a la Pyromancer’s Goggles, The Chain Veil, Chandra’s Regulator, Sword of the Animist, even Tamiyo and Venser’s Journals et al?

When.

Strategy for Nerfed Equipments

"Equipment has to be severely nerfed if it’s colorless to the point that it tends not to get played in constructed formats" - One way you've gotten around that in the past, which I hope to see more of, is making them good in specific decks. Ghostfire Blade was very good, but only in BR Eldrazi aggro. Captain's Claws in RW Allies. Sword of the Animist in midrange Landfall (but too slow for aggro). Those decks weren't quite good enough beyond the FNM level, but it wasn't the equipments' fault.

We tried that approach. It’s very difficult.

Artifacts' Color Pie

New 18 Sep 2020 Asked by jack-os-5d 41 Comments

i've recently gotten curious as to what artifacts' color pie is. what are the limits to what can and can't be colorless? sword of the animist FEELS green, but can be run in anything for example. why isnt it just green? why arent most artifacts colored?

We’re doing more colored artifacts, but sometimes they represent genetically useful magical items.

Origins Draft Experience

Maro: Yesterday with Magic Origins, I drafted a Green-blue token deck with Nissa, sword of the Animist, Zendikar's Roil and a ton of elves. I felt like I was living Nissa's story. It was amazing, please thank the creative team for me.

Will do. Origins draft allows that feeling a lot. We drafted in R&D and I played out Chandra on Kaladesh.
