River of Tears Land Cycle

New 19 Jul 2024 Asked by dwarf-scum 2 Comments

In the absolute hypothetical where River of Tears were to get a full land cycle, because of the unique way it works do you think it would get a 10 card cycle (one for each color pair) or a 20 card cycle (one for each permutation, so for each color pair there would be a land that tapped for color A if you had played a land and color B if you hadn’t, and there would also be one that tapped for B if you had and A if you hadn’t)

Or a 5-card cycle.

Dual Lands Cycles

What're the chances of the other Future Sight dual lands getting complete cycles, like with the filter lands and horizon lands? (So more of Grove of the Burnwillows, Nimbus Maze, and River of Tears)

I’ll call it possible, but not highly probable. The ones we liked how they played have been cycled out. The ones remaining, we have issues with, but who knows, I never say never.

Possibility of River of Tears Set

I find River of Tears to be fun in a Spikey way in that it asks a lot of questions that lands don't normally ask of the player. Is there a chance the rest could come out in advanced-level products like Commander decks over a longer span of time?

I was proud of the card when I designed it, but we found that it is next to impossible for other players to follow that you’ve tapped it for the right color.

Future of Rare Land Cycles

New 29 Feb 2020 Asked by jonathan-hecht 40 Comments

Looking back at the rare land cycle from future sight, we got to see the filter lands in the lorwyn block and we recently got to see the canopy cycle in m.h (well the enemy cycle at least) but i was wondering. Where are the Grove of the burnwillows, Nimbus maze and River of tears cycles in the future of magic? I will argue the canopy cycle is the highest powers so i dont see the other 3 cycles breaking anything.

It’s not always just about power. River of Tears, for example, is hard to process.

Theros Name Trivia

New 01 Dec 2019 Asked by auroradrift 55 Comments

Hi maro, it was just my birthday and I was wondering if I could have some trivia on my favorite plane, Theros? Thanks!

We were originally going to call Theros Arkhos after the Planechase planar card (first referenced on the Future Sight card River of Tears), but we couldn’t clear the name for the set and went with Theros instead.Happy Birthday!

River of Tears Reprint?

New 06 Oct 2015 Asked by theatrepunk 34 Comments

Do you think you could ever reprint River of Tears? Or are there too many memory issues?

I’m worried the memory issues might keep us from finishing the cycle. I was very proud of the design back in the day, but it’s proven a little more unpractical than I thought it would be.

River of Tears Lands

Was a cycle of lands based on River of Tears considered for Battle for Zendikar? It basically has landfall! Was it considered for the original Zendikar block?

It was considered.

Futureshifted Cards Reference

New 04 May 2014 Asked by elnefashu 25 Comments

Do you guys still take a look at the futureshifted cards when designing new sets? I know they were just "possible" futures of Magic, and that we might never see them all, but there stuff that's just SO interesting. River of Tears, for instance.

Whenever we do a set we always check Future Sight to see if there’s a futureshifted card that might be from it.

Favorite Future Sight Land

Of the rare lands that were printed in Future Sight, which one is your favourite?

River of Tears. That was my favorite one I designed.
