Rise from the Grave

Legendary Sorcery Costs

New 25 Apr 2018 Asked by howdidigethereimnotgoodwithmagic 56 Comments

I've looked into the legendary sorcery spells and it is definitely true that they are way cheaper than they should be compared to non-legendary. The theme seems to be either it's 2 mana cheaper, or that it does a 2-3 mana effect it wouldn't do in a vanilla version. When you look at similar cards to them (Genesis Wave, Part the Waterveil, Comet Storm (instant, I know), March of the Tomb, Pick-your-wrath-effect, and Rise From the Grave) you'll find them to be elegantly and aggressively costed!

Thanks for doing the homework. : )

Red Reanimation Spells

New 23 Feb 2017 Asked by phyrexianoracle 24 Comments

cryptrat said I would love to see Corpse Dance printed in red. Maro:Me too, except without the graveyard order mattering part. Before we start giving red instant speed cheap playable reanimation spells, can we please let black have them back? Rise from the grave isn't competitive standard playable.

I was talking about the effect not the power level/cost.

Color Misconception

Re: Rise From the Grave. Not true that people will remember that the creature is black. I have seen many many people try to Doom Blade a creature that has been Risen from the Grave during core set drafts.

Fair point.

Zombie Classification

With rise from the grave I think they meant about making it a black zombie

It’s constant and flavorful so if a “black matters” card ever came up, odds the players would remember.

Rise from Grave Question

Why is Rise from the Grave the basic Core Set reanimation spell, given the memory issue it has? Unlike something like Cavern, it generally doesn't add anything to the game to justify the memory issue.

That’s not really the type of memory issue I was talking about. Over ninety percent of all constructed games are played using sleeves. At the end of the game, the different sleeve will tell you to return the card. The memory issues I mean are a card makes you have to remember that it does something for the rest of the game.
