Why is Questing Phelddagrif not legendary?

There are many of them, I guess.

Phelddagrif Illustration Compensation

"I’ll draw Magic cards when asked and my fee is the cheapest in the business."

You've said publicly that you rather than cashing the $1 check that you got paid for illustrating Look At Me I'm The DCI, you framed it with the artwork. Did get a similar financial compensation for your Secret Lair Questing Phelddagrif? Regardless of how much you were paid, did you accept that payment?

I didn’t get paid for my Phelddagrif drawing.

Release of Unreleased Tokens

New 19 May 2020 Asked by wutamautoromram 218 Comments

May you please release an official set of all of unreleased tokens? For example, Penumbra Bobcat, Apocalypse Angel, Questing Phelddagrif, etc. These would be so sweet! I realize this would not be a huge money maker but there are many cube builders / old school players out there who'd really appreciate this :)

Legendary Phelddagrif Queries

New 20 Jul 2016 Asked by osisucks2000 153 Comments

Why isn't Questing Phelddagrif a Legendary? What was he questing, anyway?

Phelddagrifs are just constantly questing, like all the time. For what? That’s a more personal choice and can vary wildly from Phelddagrif to Phelddagrif.

Phelddagrif Planeswalker Possibility

New 23 Nov 2015 Asked by duragarr-the-brave 36 Comments

Mark, any chance players will get a phelddagrif planeswalker? You know the fan-base wants it. (^_^)

Questing Phelddagrif still sends me letters. : ) Unfortunately, I think flying purple hippos are currently grouped with the Beebles and Squirrels no longer black border material. : (

Phelddagrif Trivia

Some Questing Phelddagrif trivia for dr4c0thenerd... QP was the prerelease card for Planeshift; the gimmick of invasion block was that prerelease cards were in ancient languages, so QP is the only card to be printed in Ancient Greek!

Phelddagrif Trivia

New 18 Jun 2015 Asked by sorin-the-mourning 46 Comments

Birthday Trivia is a thing I hear that you do, on occasion. I'm turning 28 tomorrow, June 18th, and hoping you might have something on Questing Phelddagrif, a card I tried so hard to play in Type II FNM very early in my MtG career. The opponents' responses were my favorite part. Any trivia on the original Phelddagrif would also be greatly appreciated! Keep Being Awesome, Mr. Rosewater! Thank you!

For those that don’t know Phelddagrif is an anagram of Garfield Ph.D. Whenever PR talked about Richard in the early days, they always used the Ph.D. With his name. There was an early joke among the designers that it was just a matter of time before the game got a flying purple hippo. The Eastcoast Playtesters (Skaff Elias, Jim Lin, Dave Petty & Chris Page) decided it would be funny to make the card and name it after Richard. I don’t unfortunately have much trivia about Questing Phelddagrif. Happy Birthday!

Silliness Comparison

New 17 Jul 2014 Asked by mackeytwins 21 Comments

Is Questing Phelddagrif sillier than Goblin Test Pilot, Hot Soup, or Goblin Kaboonist?

Goblins have a humorous element built into their design. The game does get to have humor. A flying purple hippo was crafted to be silly for the sake of being silly in contrast. Hot Soup, by the way, was an exception made because it was one of the outside designer cards.

Alternate-Language Promos

New 22 Feb 2014 Asked by waxingnostalgicforthe90s 3 Comments

Are alternate-language promotional cards (Glory, Stone-Tongue Basilisk, Questing Phelddagrif, etc.) off the table?

No, but we’ve moved on from using gimmicks on the prerelease card.
