Spike's Card Retrieval Limits

New 24 Mar 2019 Asked by graymerchantsmonomyth 23 Comments

Unrules question: Can Spike, Tournament Grinder grab cards banned in Arena joke formats? For example, Poly-Raptor and a few others are banned in the Pandemonium event happening right now.

No, it must be an official ongoing format.

Pyxis Obscure Facts

It's my birthday! Can I get some trivia on my favorite card, Pyxis of Pandemonium? The more obscure the better!

The card is a top-down Pandora’s Box. Happy Birthday!

Switching Mechanics

Do Mary O'Kill and the Killbots "enter the battlefield" when they are switched, for purposes of a card like Pandemonium?

No, switched cards do not “enter the battlefield”. They just exchange positions.

Planar Chaos Concept

How about a Planar Chaos set with alternate tribes and parallel timeline cards instead of color pie pandemonium? Flavour discontinuity not mechanical breaks?

I’m not sure the creative team we be on board, but it’s something I’d be more likely to make as a Planar Chaos 2.

Rare Mythics in Limited

New 27 Dec 2014 Asked by memecucker 35 Comments

Are some cards that aren't very good in limited (im thinking of Pyxis of Pandemonium as an example) made rare or mythic so they don't mess up limited play?

Yes.

Pyxis of Pandemonium

Do you know who designed Pyxis of Pandemonium? It's one of my favorite cards to play right now.

I think that was a Ken Nagle design but I’m not 100%. If not Ken, my next best guess would be Ethan Fleischer.

Pandora Reference

Re: Pandora's Box - I thought Pyxis of Pandemonium was a reference to it?

It was. I think the poster liked the name “Pandora’s Mox”.

Card Design Preferences

New 22 Jun 2012 Asked by choppenstantz 4 Comments

I mentioned it in a comment, but really, I do think putting "you control" or "your opponents" is the worst thing you can do to a card. I will always love Second Sunrise over Faiths Reward, Furnace of Rath over Gratuitous Violence, and Pandemonium over Warstorm Surge, simply because there were more interactive, thought-intensive, and required you to plan around them. They were fun because they had a chance to backfire, not just one-sided set-and-forget "this helps me win harder" cards.

Our data shows you are in the minority on this issue. We’ll still make things universal in effect when we think it’s important to the card but our default right now is affecting only yours or the opponents’ stuff depending on the effect.

Squirrel Chaos

New 06 Apr 2012 Asked by wobbles 5 Comments

Hypothetically, if I were playing a game of Silver-Bordered Magic, and I had access to a live squirrel, and I put that squirrel onto the table after playing Form of the Squirrel, but then the Squirrel ran out of the room amid the resulting pandemonium. Do I lose the game? I image as silver bordered rules manager you get asked that a lot.

As much as it saddens me, I cannot officially condone the bringing of a live squirrel to a Magic event (They’re basically rats with better PR if you’re unaware.)
