Unfinity Commander Decks

New 10 Nov 2022 Asked by birdwizardry 34 Comments

Hi Mark. I have a request for the other Question Marks. If you have built an Unfinity commander deck, please post it on Mtggoldfish, archidekt, or wherever so that EDHREC can pick it up! I have to believe these commanders are more popular than the numbers show right now. :)

I’ll all for promoting people being public about playing Unfinity Commanders.

Reserved List Discussion

New 29 Dec 2017 Asked by gophilipbowles 41 Comments

I'm not sure where the commentator who suggested 35% of the top 40 Legacy cards are on the reserved list got his list from. The MtGGoldfish version of the list has only Lion's Eye Diamond in the top 40 cards played, and none in the top 20. This excludes lands, but a very simple solution for the reserved list would simply be to backdate the original condition (cards not reprinted in 4th, Ice Age or Chronicles) to cards not reprinted in Revised or later.

I believe the number came from counting up the actual cards played in winning decks (not individual names, actual cards played counting each individual copy). And yes, the largest amount of that is the dual lands, but they’re not leaving the Reserved List so you have to count them. In short, when the world can’t play the required mana base of the format, it’s a poor format to push worldwide.

Content Creator Engagement

Do people in WotC read articles made by content creators such as MTGGoldfish and so on?

Between all of R&D, we probably read most the articles.

Preview Card Selection

New 05 Mar 2017 Asked by pseudopotence 30 Comments

During preview seasons Wizards usually reveals preview cards to various third party Magic affiliates like the Manasource or MtgGoldfish. Is there a particular process for choosing the card these affiliates get to reveal?

We have a meeting where we decide how all the preview cards will be previewed and by whom.

Engaging Community Content

Do you pay attention to groups such as Tolarian Community College or MTGGoldfish? I feel they have good insights on the state of Magic. Covering things like reprints, esport coverage, value of pre-packaged Magic products, etc.

I try hard to read/watch stuff from a wide variety of people. I have read/watched both Tolarian Community College and MTGGoldfish.

Mythic Rarity Evolution

New 14 Dec 2015 Asked by lakanna 75 Comments

Have you read the MTGGoldfish article on the changing definition of "Mythic Rare?" It's a great exposition of how Mythic have changed from their introduction into the current situation, where more and more each set are Standard staples, required to be competitive.

And a staple part of the whole article is a misunderstanding of a quote I made seven years ago.
