Hedron Alignment and Singleton Commander

New 19 Jun 2024 Asked by dubbzious-blog 3 Comments

If/when: A commander playable Hedron Alignment style wincon?

I’m not sure exactly what you’re asking for. Hedron Alignment’s win condition, having multiples in certain places, seems to directly contradict the singleton nature of Commander.

Claire's Rule-Bending Functionality

New 13 Jun 2024 Asked by aalgot 1 Comments

If. It’s hard to do a need multiple copies win condition in a singleton format. See, this is why we need the rules to support Claire. Then hedron alignment would work in commander by using token creation effects combined with her ability.

Claire is acorn because, she doesn’t work in the normal rules. It’s not even close.

Unrules Query

New 22 Aug 2019 Asked by maakkel 17 Comments

Hey Mark. Unrules question. If I use "more or less" on hedron alignment so i need 0 hedron alignments in the different zones, does it become 0 or more, or exactly zero? Also thanks for all you work here on tumblr :)

That’s not how More or Less works. It can only change numbers. Hedron Alignment doesn’t specifically specify “one” in the rules text.

Alternate Win Conditions

New 04 May 2016 Asked by mydrel-kyenshi 32 Comments

Is 1 alternate lose/win condition per set going to be the norm going forward, after Demonic pact in Origins, Felidar Sovereign in BFZ, Hedron Alignment in OGW, and Triskaidekaphobia in SOI, or is this just an anomaly?

We tend to do no more than one, unless it’s a mechanic, as a default, but we don’t always have one.

Promo Distribution Methods

New 31 Jan 2016 Asked by mrmoustachemm 33 Comments

I prefer the "preselected list" style of promos for pre-releases. There's still enough variation, but without the feel-bads of opening unplayables like Hedron Alignment or Inverter of Truth as your promo. I do like that right now you get a random card from any colour, instead of picking a specific coloured pack, so my preference is a more limited set of promos like Khans block, but any pre-release pack can contain any promo, like BFZ block.

Interesting.

Hedron Alignment's Color

New 27 Jan 2016 Asked by peppercornsteve 21 Comments

What exactly makes Hedron Alignment Blue instead of White? White generally cares more about enchantments, and if Stasis Snare/Isolation Zone/Quarantine Field are any indication, White seems to really like using Hedrons strategically

It mechanically could work in White or Blue but the flavor worked better in Blue.

Please thank the whole team for whoever designed Hedron Alignment. I've been looking for a new alternate wincon since Biovisionary rotated out, and I love that it scries to help find the solution to it.

It was designed by Ken Nagle (way back in the first Great Designer Search).

Trading Unwanted Cards

New 19 Jan 2016 Asked by crypsys-deactivated20190627 81 Comments

If you open a card you don't want, find the person it was made for! Yesterday I opened a Hedron Alignment, which I want nothing to do with, so I offered it for free and was surprised by the number of people who wanted to trade for it instead.

My point exactly.

Liking Hedron Alignment

New 18 Jan 2016 Asked by 4blackout 71 Comments

Hedron Alignment is my favourite card from Oath! I opened it as my prerelease rare and got another one in a pack, so thanks! I wish I had gotten two more so I could have built around them. At least I can build a sweet standard deck with them! :)

I’m glad you like the card. Ken Nagle designed it in the very first Great Designer Search and it took eight years to make it to print.

Prerelease Promo Selection

New 18 Jan 2016 Asked by antatog 26 Comments

Would it be possible to have a subset of rares and mythic be available as pre release promos? To avoid the feel bad of opening hedron archive and your opponent opening Chandra?

There are different players that want different things. For example, I had numerous people complaining that Hedron Alignment was a prerelease card while having others complimenting me for it.

PreRelease Promo Issue

New 17 Jan 2016 Asked by serialrobinson 36 Comments

I think the problem with getting a card like Hedron Alignment as a prerelease promo isn't that it doesn't have any value (i.e. being able to trade it to other people) but that it is completely unplayable in the prerelease. I don't know if there is a way to solve it with the way the promos currently work, but I think it is a real problem to have the shiny awesome card you open at maybe the only events you go to be something you basically can't play with.

When we gave you one specific card, we couldn’t let anyone play with it because it would warp the environment.

Hedron Alignment Praise

Can I just say that I love the new Hedron Alignment card? It reminds me of the days Maze's End was played in Standard.

I’ll pass along your kind words to Ken Nagle, the card’s designer.

In regard to Hedron Alignment, was there a big discussion about printing a card, at rare, that requires 4 copies for it to 'work'? If so, could you describe the process of creating this card (in a DtW or article perhaps)?

The card was designed by Ken Nagle in the first Great Designer Search.
