Baby Themed Trivia

New 24 Aug 2015 Asked by kevinthewaterman 58 Comments

Mark, my daughter was born today! In her honor can I get some trivia on babies in Magic?

We haven’t done many babies in Magic. The few we have tend to be babies of big ferocious beasts like Dragons. Dragon Whelp was how we could justify a small, cheaper Dragon. Congratulations on your new arrival!

Dragons at Lower Rarities

Do you think it could be possible to have Dragons at lower rarities in the right set (like Seraph of Dawn and others in AVR)?

We’ve had things like Dragon Whelp at uncommon in the past.

Firefly Card Reprint Odds

New 28 Feb 2013 Asked by seabutcher 7 Comments

What are the chances of Firefly being reprinted? (I actually just want it to exist in foil so I can have a shiny Firefly.)

Better than the chances of the show Firefly coming back, but not by tons. Mostly because if we’re going to make a small red firebreather these days it’s more likely to be a dragon whelp than a firefly.

Hornet Sting Sentiment

New 06 Jun 2012 Asked by magic-chan 5 Comments

If I use an Hornet Sting to get rid of a Dragon Hatchling, does it make you happier or more sad?

Whenever a player uses a Hornet Sting, I am sad. While I don’t like the iconics being made smaller and less rare, I do understand that the dragon whelp is an iconic fantasy trope. As long as it’s done very infrequently I can get behind a baby dragon.

Low-Cost Dragons

Is it possible to make a dragon that makes sense at only one or two mana? Dragon whelp, a dragon hatchling, is the cheapest dragon at four mana. I've always wanted more cute little dragons.

There is not a lot to gain of making wimpy version of awesome iconic.

Low CMC Dragons

New 02 Mar 2012 Asked by kycygni3 4 Comments

There's no dragons with 3 or less cmc. Ever consider wyverns or dragonlings?

We try hard with our popular iconics to keep them close to the thing that makes them exciting. A lot of the draw of dragons is how large and majestic they are. We don’t want to undercut that by making little version that are far less powerful. That said, we have made a few little dragons over the years, Dragon Whelp being the most famous.
