Decree of Justice

Favorite Cards Trivia

New 15 Apr 2017 Asked by borisdevilboon 27 Comments

Birthday Time! Can I get trivia for either of my two favorite cards; Decree of Justice, or Word of Seizing? Thanks!!

Word of Seizing came about because when designing Split Second, I had the design team write up on the white board every spell they wish their opponent couldn’t mess with. Multiple people suggested Threaten so we made one.Happy Birthday!

XXW Mana Cost Query

So I just noticed that there are no cards with a mana cost of XXW. (Decree of Justice is XX2WW, Entreat the Angels is XXWWW, and Quarantine Field is XXWW.) Every other colour has an XXM card. (Is M what you're using for generic coloured mana these days? I can't recall.)

It is. We don’t really think of it as an unfinished cycle, but I’m sure we’ll eventually get to it.

Decrees Naming Origin

On today's rerun of Magic Arcana we see that Scourges "Decree of justice" was named "Karona's army" during playtest. Did all of the decrees followed the same naming pattern during playtest?

Karona appears in the art (or her shadow) of the whole cycle. It was always Karona themed.

Cycling Mechanic Future

You've said that cycling is almost certain to come back (yay!). What about powerful effects-on-cycle like Resounding Thunder or Decree of Justice?

I feel cycling is better when it’s cycling and nor when it’s kicker. Let kicker (and kicker-like mechanics) be kicker.
