Border Guardian

Acorn Holostamp Query

New 14 Sep 2023 Asked by darobber77 35 Comments

Un-question that's probably been asked before: for gameplay purposes, does the acorn holostamp count as a silver border for cards like Border Guardian?

It counts as silver-border card for cards that care about Un-cards (like Ass Whuppin’). Border Guardian is the one exception because it cares about literal border color not Un-ness, so it’s the one that doesn’t count an acorn as “silver bordered”.

Un rules question. What happens with Border Guardian when you cast gold bordered cards?

Nothing happens. It doesn’t have a border that triggers anything.

Acorn Symbol's Silver Border Status

New 26 Jul 2022 Asked by gladiuslucix 38 Comments

I assume this was answered with the first UNF preview, but do Acorn stamped cards count a silver bordered for cards like Ass Whuppin' or Border Guardian? Does it vary based on the card asking?

We’re going to errata most of the cards that reference “silver border” to say “silver border or acorn symbol”.

Old and New Cards Interaction

New 02 May 2022 Asked by madxmage 40 Comments

Hey Mark, will the new Acorn/Unfinity cards be able to be "seen" by the older Un-Cards that specifically call out Silver Border Games and Permanents?

Yes, most of the old cards will be errataed to affect silver border or acorn. The one exception is probably Border Guardian as its whole flavor is looking at borders.

Silver-Border and Acorn Cards

New 24 Feb 2022 Asked by jwcjds 24 Comments

for silver-border cards that reference specifically silver-border cards/permanents (ass whuppin', for instance) are they going to be erratta'd to include acorn cards in the future? (or, will the term "silver-border" be considered equivalent to "acorn" in the future?)

Most cards referencing silver border will be errataed to refer up silver border or acorn cards. A few, like Border Guardian that specifically cares about border color, will remain the same.

It’s a possibility.

On Acorn Cards and Underdome

New 16 Jan 2022 Asked by simicmimic 24 Comments

Will cards like Underdome still work with acorn cards if R&D’s Secret Lair is out?

The plan is yes. With an exception or two (such as Border Guardian), “silver border” will become “silver border or acorn stamp”.

Changes in Un-card Borders

New 27 Dec 2021 Asked by tevans-living-life 35 Comments

Now that un-cards will no longer be using silver borders (instead using the acorn stamp), will cards and effects that previously referenced silver borders also retroactively care about this new technology for the sake of backwards compatibility?

For the most part, cards referencing silver border will now reference “silver border or acorn stamp”. The one exception, that I’m aware of, is Border Guardian as that specifically cares about borders.

Acorn Stamp and Silver-Bordered Cards

New 01 Dec 2021 Asked by yesterminute 30 Comments

With the new Acorn stamp, will there be errata for cards like Ass Whuppin' and Border Guardian to count the Acorn cards as silver-bordered?

Ass Whuppin’, yes, as it is supposed to affect Un-games. Border Guardian whole flavor is that it actually looks at the border of the card, so that probably won’t change.

Border Guardian Card Inquiry

New 30 Nov 2021 Asked by therobotwafflejuggler 26 Comments

For Border Guardian, or any other cards that care about a card's border color, am I right in thinking the Acorn stamped cards will be treated as Black-border even though they will likely still be colloquially referred to as silver-bordered?

Border Guardian specifically cares about border color, so we don’t plan to errata that card, but most cards referencing “silver-bordered” will get errata.

Errata for Silver-Border References

New 29 Nov 2021 Asked by genderlich-deactivated20211204 27 Comments

Will cards like Underdome that reference silver borders receive errata to work with "acorn cards"?

Basically, yes. A few cards like Border Guardian which is more about the state of the border rather than something being an Un-card might not get errata.

Border Guardian Mechanics

Which, if any, of Border Guardian's abilities should be triggered by playing Mystery Booster playtest cards?

Border Guardian just looks at the literal color of the border. The playtest cards have a black border.

Silver Border Ruling

New 23 Dec 2017 Asked by griselbrandseviltwin 21 Comments

I need a silver boarder ruling please!! With border guardian in play if you play another unstable card since the bottom boarder is black does it get +1+1 and unblockable?

No, it’s a silver bordered card. All current cards have the black bottom and it’s not treated as a border for determining border color.

No border is not silver, black or white.
