Single Gravestorm Card

New 22 Feb 2018 Asked by hellawackshiznit 47 Comments

I recently learned that "Bitter Ordeal" is the only printed card with the keyword "Gravestorm". I'm surprised R&D would create a new keyword and then only use it once. Is there a story behind this card and will we potentially ever see Gravestorm used again?

It was from a set called Future Sight which has numerous keywords “from the future” that only showed up on one to three cards.

Bitter Ordeal's Speed

Why bitter ordeal wasn't instant? I Love it but it's hard to use ( and abuse :-P) at sorcery speed..

I like questions that come with their own answers. : ) Our goal is not make cards that are easily abused. Certain effects are primarily done at sorcery speed because they can get a bit ugly when done at instant speed. “Extracting” (slang for removing a card from another player’s library) is not normally done at instant speed because the intent of it was not to counter effects that search the library for a card.

Milling Mechanic Philosophy

When it comes to milling, Blue seems a lot less discriminating than black. Blue's effects value quantity (Traumatize and many more) while Black has cards like Sadistic Sacrament and Bitter Ordeal that value quality. Isn't that strange, flavor-wise ? I have trouble seeing a black mage actually caring about which memories he will erase, while a blue mage settles for a not-so-subtle mass memory destruction. Could you explain ?

Blue’s a little kinder than black. Blue makes you forget. Black breaks into your mind and rips pieces out.
