Has Wizards completely stopped making other CCGs?

Besides Magic, we currently also make Transformers and Duelmasters (the latter sold only in Japan).

Game Crossovers

New 23 Oct 2019 Asked by instantlycoldbread-blog 36 Comments

Has there ever been talks of a game crossover for Magic that wasn't just collectible? Such as the Transformers set, or the My Little Pony set. Maybe in an Unset?

You can actually play with the My Little Pony cards.

I mean, doesn’t hasbro also own My Little Pony And Transformers?

The question was about board games.

Oversized Card Packs

New 27 Jul 2019 Asked by haru-n-harkel 23 Comments

With the success of the Transformers TCG, would we be able to see a supplemental booster set that contained one or two Oversized cards and a number of regular-sized cards in it? (such as a set that contains oversized Legendary creatures/Planeswalkers in addition to Plane cards to pad the numbers on oversized cards you can pull)

We have the printing technology, but I’m not sure Magic players would be happy getting less cards per booster than they’re used to.

I'd like to request an article or drive to work about your involvement in the Transformers TCG.

I already did one with carpool guest Scott Van Essen.

Folding Cards Potential

New 03 Mar 2019 Asked by omegatheta225 35 Comments

Been only a day or two, but from what we've seen the Transformers TCG combiner cards are being well received, especially it's folding. does this increase the chances of folding in MTG?

Other Wizards TCG’s doing things helps on the production side as we know our printers are capable of doing them. The technology doesn’t always cross over cleanly though. In general though, players in other games liking some new element can’t hurt its chances in Magic.

Transformers TCG Insights

Will you answer Transformers TCG questions here (that you have the answers to)?

I was only involved in early design, so I don’t have many answers.

Transformers Starter Focus

New 27 Dec 2018 Asked by acceptableduraz 25 Comments

Why do the starter products for the Transformers card game feature Autobots fighting other Autobots? Is it to make deckbuilding easier to start with?

We made an Autobot starter to begin because we thought that’s what would be the best jumping on point for new players.

Happy to hear you’re enjoying it.

TCG Draft Consideration

New 09 Dec 2018 Asked by bassimelwakil 15 Comments

What thought was given to being able to draft the transformers tcg?

We don’t make a TCG without thinking about draft.

Transformers TCG Design

New 01 Dec 2018 Asked by hawkmint-blog 18 Comments

Non-Magic question: Did any of the Magic color philosophy influence the design of the Transformers TCG? If so, how? As an aside, I got to finally play it this week, and I really like it. Thank you for working on it!

No, the colors were based on the needs of the game and the IP.

Unused Mechanic Ideas

New 17 Nov 2018 Asked by ryuaqua92 34 Comments

When working on other TCGs that don't quite see the light of day (Mood Swings, the original Neopets game) or on games whose mechanics are quite different from Magic (Transformers), are there unused mechanic ideas you can take back with you and implement in Magic design? Or are the other games usually too different?

I have made many a Magic card inspired by cards I designed for other card games.

Transformers Queries

New 27 Oct 2018 Asked by darkfox190 16 Comments

You don't seem to be answering Transformers questions - is there a better place to ask them than here?

I’m not sure where to direct you. I had a hand in the core design, but I’m just not up on enough of the current game to answer questions. I’ll ask at work for a good place to ask questions.

Transformers TCG Tool

New 21 Oct 2018 Asked by ikketton 21 Comments

Is there currently a Transformers TCG Gatherer equivalent, and if not, can you make one?

I’m not sure. In my spare time? : )

Transformer Card Size

New 13 Oct 2018 Asked by jonathan-hecht 25 Comments

I was listening to the Transformers drive to work and i might missed it but did you explain why are the character cards so big that they wont fit many binders? (loving the game by the way, thinking of getting the starter pack for casual purposes)

It’s a Transformer game about fighting with giant “robots”, so we wanted them to actually be giant.

TCG Combat Logic

New 08 Oct 2018 Asked by tel-stories-blog 35 Comments

Hey Mark, just got done listening to the Transformers podcast. Why do you think trading card games often have combat?

They’re one on one games (primarily) where you each bring your own deck to the game. That lends itself well to combat.
