Steel Squirrel

Interactive Game Play

Mark! I need to tell you this: I sat down tonight to play a commander game with Vrondriss as my commander. I've upgraded the precon with silver-border cards and with Painiac and Chaos Dragon, I was able to swing a 24/24 Steel Squirrel to one of my opponents! We lost to the combo deck, but I don't care, it was worth it. I love rolling dice with uncards. =D

Unstable has some powerful cards when you start regularly rolling twenty-sided dice.

Steel Squirrel's Effect

I feel you've gotten this a lot, or at least before. DoesSteel Squirrel get it's effect off D20 rolls?

As worded, it does get the effect.

Concerns over Die Rolling

New 25 Jul 2021 Asked by nav566 41 Comments

Mark, I'm worried about the future of die rolling. I feel like now that d20 are a common die, the potential for designs like Steel Squirrel has evaporated. If you go back to using d6, you can no longer do a scaling payoff on the result, since d20 will break the cards. I feel like backwards compatibility was damaged because of the decision to use d20 here.

The biggest impact is we’re less likely to say “whenever you roll a die” than “whenever you roll a six-sided die”.

Acornelia Trigger Criteria

New 18 Feb 2020 Asked by cursedereaper 27 Comments

Re-phrasing of my question (if not answered) Acornelia won't trigger on unsanctioned lands because they can't be cast (spell with squirrel in its art). But my last question remains the same. Do abstract things like squirrel shaped clouds, statues, negative space, paintings count if on a card thats can actually be cast.

It needs to be a squirrel and not just a squirrel-shaped item. An artificial squirrel like Steel Squirrel is okay.

Equipping Steel Squirrel

Mark, if Proper Laboratory Attire is equipped to a Steel Squirrel, does it still get +x/+x on the die roll higher than 5?

Yes, because the effect isn’t targeted and thus not prevented by the protection.
