Molten Influence

Red's Enchantment Interaction

Seeing your answer about Molten Influence and Red's interaction with enchantments has me wondering: is red allowed anything that might otherwise be considered a break if its built into a punisher style effect? Like is "destroy target permanent unless its controller takes 4 damage" acceptable?

We’ve specifically avoided “destroy target enchantment” (and related effects), but most other effects are possible.

Counterspell Color Pie

Now that Tibalt's Trickery is in-pie, is Molten Influence (red damage punisher counterspell) a color pie break?

Tibalt’s trickery isn’t a counterspell. It’s using the text “counter target spell” as a less wordy way to turn it into another spell.Molten Influence isn’t a color pie break because it’s a punisher spell which is primary in red. You the caster don’t control if it’s ever going to counter a spell.

Color Pie Discussion

Is Molten Influence (red punisher counterspell) a color pie break? If not, could we see more of this effect in the future?

No. Red can do punisher spells where one half is something outside its color pie because the opponent can opt for the damage instead. There are a number of caveats though.

Molten Influence Query

Is Molten Influence (red punisher counterspell) a color pie break?

No. The other effect of a punisher spell can be out of color effects since red has no control over it happening. We specifically avoided effects that counter red weaknesses like enchantment destruction.

Red's Punisher Mechanic

What are your thoughts on the red card, Molten Influence and how it relates to red's share of the color pie and its philosophies?

The punisher mechanic is basically red threatening the opponent. “Do what I say or I punch you in the face”. Red gets access to more of the color pie but with a lack of control to guarantee that he or she gets what they want.

Countermagic Distribution

You asked why people want countermagic spread across more colors even though many players get annoyed of it if there's too much of it. I ask why the two has to be opposed? To let other colours have some kinds of countermagic, even if a bit bad and far apart, would help leviate the grip that blue has of constructed magic. There has historically been connections with other colours and aspects of countermagic with cards such as bind, molten influence, withering boon and illumination

I believe blue’s historical dominance has more to do with blue’s access to card drawing than it does to counterspells. While many people have been pitching the idea that players would dislike counterspells less if they had access to them, I’m still a little dubious.
