Blue Discard Experiment

New 18 May 2019 Asked by stormtide-leviathan 49 Comments

Was WotC testing discard in blue during the original Zendikar-Innistrad period? There are two cards from Zendika block (Trapfinder's trick, jace the mind sculptor's ultimate), three from Scars block (Jin-Gitaxias, Mindculling, Serum Raker) and one from innistrad (Frightful Delusions). I just find it interesting that all these cards were printed so close to each other since that's not supposed to be a blue effect.

Yeah, we were experimenting with letting blue have a little discard.

Blue recently got Frightful Delusion in Innistrad, Mindculling in New Phyrexia, and Serum Raker in Mirrodin Besieged. So is discard secondary in blue now? Cuz that's a lot of blue discard at common and uncommon.

Discard is secondary at blue but there’s a pretty big gap between primary and secondary in discard.

With recent cards like Frightful Delusion, Mindculling and Serum Raker, is discard now secondary in blue?

By R&D’s current definitions, I’d say discard is primary in black and tertiary in blue. There is no color secondary in the ability.
